Do I need to send a snack to school with my child every day?
Yes. Every student is responsible for bringing a snack to school
each day.
Please remember to keep snacks healthy. Items like granola bars,
pieces of
fruit, crackers, string cheese, etc. are appropriate.
Generally, “finger
foods” are better than messy food like yogurt and pudding. No
drinks are
needed with snacks. Water will be provided.
If my child gets thirsty throughout the day, will water always be available?
Yes. We have a drinking fountain in our classroom that is always
available to
the children. I realize how important it is for children to have
access to
water, especially in the warmer months. Our drinking fountain
has an endless
supply of cool, fresh water for everyone! Please do not send
water bottles,
juice boxes, etc. to school with your child.
Will my child be napping at school?
No. Our day has a balance of active and quiet work times. Your
child will
have quiet rest time right after lunch recess.
May I send a special treat to school on my child’s birthday?
Yes. We love to celebrate birthdays in kindergarten! Just make
sure that
there is enough for the entire class. You may bring items such
as cupcakes or
cookies for a special treat. Please do not send in a large cake
or anything
that needs to be cut into pieces. No candles, please.
I am planning a birthday party for my child. Is it okay for him/her to pass out invitations at school?
If everyone in the class will be invited, you may distribute them
at school.
If only some students are being invited, please send invitations
by mail or
distribute them outside the school environment. Kindergarteners
can be very
sensitive, and feelings often get hurt when someone is not
invited to a
special event. You may contact the office if you are interested
in obtaining
a Stranahan directory.
If I want to drop my child off at kindergarten rather than send him on the bus, what should I do?
The first bell rings at 8:50 as a signal to students that they
may head to
their classrooms. I recommend that you walk your child down to
our classroom
so that s/he arrives before the 9:05 final bell.
If I need to pick my child up one day rather than have her ride home on the bus, what do I need to do?
If your child usually rides the bus home, you must write a note
to let me know
that you will be picking up your child. Make sure that you put
the note into
your child’s daily folder. If it just goes into your child’s
backpack, I may
never see it. I check all folders every day. If you experience
a change in
plans during the day and need to pick up your child, please
contact the
Stranahan office and inform the secretary. If I do not have a
note or a phone
call, I will send your child home on the bus every day without
exception.
I am worried that my child may not know which bus to ride on his way home from school. How will he know which bus is his.
At Stranahan the dismissal procedures are well organized. I have
created a
special “bus tag” for your child. All kindergarten students will
wear bus
tags home so the Stranahan staff and bus drivers can make sure
your child is
riding home on the correct bus. I will also be with the
kindergarteners to
ensure that they are all in the correct bus lines. It will be
your job to
return your child’s bus tag to school each day so it can be worn
home daily.
Will my child be picked up and dropped off in front of our home?
The bus garage determines the bus routes and the stops that each
bus will make
for pick up and drop off. Your child may not be picked up or
dropped off
right in front of your home. If you have concerns regarding your
child’s bus
stop location, please contact the bus garage. Please plan to
walk your child
to his/her bus stop and be there when s/he gets off the bus at
the end of the day.
I really want to be involved with my child’s classroom this year. Are there things I can do in the classroom?
As long as we schedule a time in advance, I would love for you to
volunteer in
our room. There is a lot you can do! You can help with skills
rings, plan
parties, join us for a field trip, be an A.L.L. S.T.A.R. helper
and much more!
Just sign up at the start of the year, or contact me for more
details.
