What's New?

Welome to the third quarter!  Wow, time flies when you are having fun.

In language arts, we are continuing to explore poetry.   We are learning about different forms that poets express themselves.  We are writing our own poetry!  The kids are very creative in poetry expression. We are also beginning a reader's theatre play about the civil rights movement.

We continue to read, reflect upon, write and analyze poems for the next few weeks.  Students will be assigned a Poetry Freeze assignment periodically for the reemainder of the year.  Your child will choose a poem to analyze and share with the class.  Please look for requirements and due dates to come home with him or her.
***If you write your own poems, you will receive 25 tickets for each poem that you write.  In addition, if you write your own Haiku, you will receive 30 tickets for the Haiku that you compose.

In math we are learning our multiplication and division facts.

We  will continue to develop our word attack skills by reading articles in the Storyworks magazine.

Now, moving onto the Native American influence in Ohio and American history in social studies.

If you write your basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts 3 x each and you will earn 10 tickets when you give them to me.  Fourth grade spelling lists are based on individual readiness levels.  Your spelling lists will either be available on my spellingcity.com webpage or your homeroom teacher's webpage. The third quarter spelling homework will be to put your words in sentences. The sentences must be complete, with at least 5 words in the sentence and everything must be spelling correctly.

We have a Lucky Listener Club which develops reading fluency.  Every Monday you will receive a new Lucky Listener Passage.  You will read to at least five people throughout the week with the focus of reaching 100% accuracy, developing expression, appropriate pace, pausing and intonation.
If you are having trouble earning your AR points towards your goal, I have writing activities that you can complete and hand in to earn 1 point for every activity completed correctly.

See me for ideas.
