How are birthdays celebrated?
Young children love to celebrate their birthday. I like to make
each child's birthday special. If you would like to send in a
small edible treat (cookies or cupcakes), or small tangible treat
(pencil, etc) we will pass them out at school. Please email or
send me a note the day before your child's birthday, so I can
schedule a good time.
Can my child bring a snack?
Yes, children are responsible for bringing their own daily
morning snack. Pretzels, dry cereal, granola bars, crackers,
grapes, apple, cheese, carrot sticks are examples of appropriate
snacks. Please no candy, chips, or cookies. There is no
refrigeration or microwave available.
Will my child have homework?
Yes. Daily book-in-the-bag will begin within the first few weeks
of school. Read the books sent home several times. Children at
this age need the frequent repetition in order to gain confidence
in their reading ability. Children will have 2 math papers, and a
phonics activity each week. All homework will be listed on the
home-school connection.
What are the behavioral expectations?
I have high expectations for the students in our classroom. I
expect the students to achieve academically to their fullest
potential. I expect students to contribute in a positive manner
to our classroom. The following is a list of rules for room 30.
1. Show a positive attitude.
2. Act responsibly.
3. Work and play safe.
4. Show respect.
We will be using the “color chart” system to help monitor these
behaviors.
Can I volunteer in my child's classroom?
Yes, volunteering is the best way to get to know your child's
friends. Book-in-the-bag is a weekly committment (about 1 hour),
and a great way to contribute. Volunteer with the PTA sponsored
activities is a great way to contribute to a great environment
within the school. See Mrs. Meyer if you are interested.
Will there be classroom parties? How can I contribute.
There will be a Fall party, Mexican fiesta, Valentine's day,
Japanese tea party, and end of the year party. There was a sign
up for all of these parties at Open House. Reminders will be sent
prior to each party in the weekly newsletter.
How can I communicate with Mrs. Meyer?
Education is a partnership between home and school. I value
parent involvement. In order for this partnership to be
effective, we need to be able to communicate.
Please feel free to call, write a note, or e-mail us if
you have concerns or questions about your child’s education.
Email is the best form of communication due to our busy day. I am
always available to schedule a conference to discuss any issue or
concern you have regarding your child.
