HISTORY:
This event was started as part of a class service project in the 2003-04
school year. The event was designed to raise money for cancer patients and
their families to help offset some of the costs associated with treatments
that insurance does not cover. In the event's first year, students teamed
up with the Toledo Children's Hospital Foundation. Together, they were able
to raise over $4,600.00.

In 2004 and 2005, over 120 students danced and worked to raise over
$8,800 in honor of the late Mr. Andy Beck, former Southview math teacher who
passed away last year. The money was donated to charities that both
research cures for cancer, as well as improve the quality of life for cancer
patients. The organizations that were selected were the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society, as well as the Victory Center of Toledo.

In 2005 and 2006, around 120 students danced and donated over $8,000 to the
Autism Society of Northwest Ohio.

In 2006 and 2007, the students again raised money to donate to the Toledo
Children's Hopsital Foundation. The more than 180 dancers smashed the
previous record of $8,800.00, raising just over $15,000.00 for the Hospital
Foundation.

In 2007 and 2008, our students chose child abuse as their problem in
society, and donated over $16,000.00 to the Children's Advocacy Center,
which is a part of the Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center in Toledo,
Ohio. This organization's mission is to help victims of abuse to recover
and cope with what has happened to them. They will be building a new
facility on Cherry St. soon, and these funds will help them make that center
an environment that is friendly to children.

That brings the five year total to over $52,000.00 for various charities.

Dance For A Chance 2009 will take place on MARCH 28TH!!! Hundreds of
Southview students will soon be discussing and debating which problem in
society we should address this year, and the charity with which we will
partner. More details will be coming soon!
