READING-The State Reading test is Mon. Oct. 3rd. Please make sure your child has a nutritional
breakfast and plenty of rest over the weekend.
This is the last week to earn 5 points for AR. At this time JONATHAN, LILY, OLIVIA H., HALLIE,
MARSHALL, PHILIP, HALEY, and REGAN are invited to teacher’s lunch. Starting in October I will give
out
Personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut to the students that earn their 5 points. During the time you may
be
helping your child with their AR book or reading story for the week you can always read to your child
as
they follow along. You can read together at the same time or take turns. But make sure you always
ask
what the page or paragraph is saying. Have them retell the page to you in their own words.
This week on Tuesday we will have a test on “Alexander.” Next Tuesday the 4th. our reading test will
be
on “If You Made A Million.” We are of course working on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
We
are continuing sequencing and to be able to tell the difference from a realistic story and a fantasy.

Science-We have finished our first chapter. The tests will be sent home today. Thank you parents for
helping your child study for this test. I hope the study guide helped. I send the book home too
through
the week to help explain what we have covered, especially if the guide does not make sense to you.
Two of our butterflies hatched. We got to watch them fly away to warmer climate for the winter. It is
such an awesome sight. One pupa is developing now into a butterfly at a perfect place for us to see.
The wings are easily noticeable through the chrysalis.
The students will be going to Mrs. Brook’s room for Social Studies until the end of the grading period
Oct. 28th.

In Spelling we are working with OI, OY, OU, and OW words.

In language we are continuing to write statement and question sentences. But we are adding
command
sentences that end in periods and exclamatory sentences that end with an exclamation mark. We are
also writing friendly letters to our classmates that have been chosen for student of the week.

In Math we will be subtracting this week by using a variety of methods. We will continue to estimate
numbers. Please continue helping your child round numbers to the nearest ten and hundred, It can
still
be a hundred number and have them round it to 10. Example:
763=800 and 760.

We are moving into groups this week. The group or I hope groups that have the highest points will
be in
next week’s newsletter.
