After taking classes at Eastern Michigan University, I earned my English
degree from Kent State University. I have also taken some graduate classes at
Youngstown State University.
I enjoy reading, writing, swimming, and bike riding.
A strong work ethic is important, not only for me as a teacher but for
you as the student as well. I expect you to put forth a great deal of effort
throughout the school year.
On a personal note, I have two sons and a dog. The most frequent question new
students ask me is, "What ARE you?" Well, I'm "mixed": Black, Chinese,
Japanese, Ojibwe Indian, Choctaw Indian, French, and Irish.
I am also classically trained on the piano and enjoy several genres, such as
jazz, gospel, lite rock, and Christian hard rock (namely Family Force 5).
After a particularly stressful day, though, I prefer to play the music myself.
I am on an endless journey to lose weight. I used to weigh 300+ pounds, but I
expect to finally reach my goal by Christmas of this year. Please do NOT
bring me treats! ;O) I may, on occasion, make you cookies, though (probably
Christmas and Valentine's Day).
Students will learn grammatical concepts, the parts of speech, writing
techniques (such as narrative, persuasive, and informative essays), and
literary concepts including the elements of a short story and poetic devices.
Students will also acquire behaviors and understand expectations that will be
needed for college as well as the work force.
