Lunch Book Club
Who will be involved in Mrs. Poston's Page Pals Book Club?
Any room 12 student interested in the monthly selection can participate in Page Pals. For the first month, everyone in the class will be able to participate. After that, we will alternate months for boys and girls. (For example, November may be a girl Page Pal group month and December would be boys.) The last meeting of the year will be a mixed group for everyone.
What is Mrs. Poston's Page Pals?
Mrs. Poston's Page Pals is a voluntary lunch book club. At the beginning of each month, Mrs. Poston will choose a book for the book club to read. Once students have previewed the books, they will have the opportunity to sign up for Page Pals. Mrs. Poston will provide each student with a book. All the students have to do is read the book and be prepared to discuss it during lunch at the end of the month.
When will Page Pals meet?
Page pals will meet once a month during lunch.
Where will Page Pals meet?
Page Pals will meet in our classroom during the designated lunch hour. Students will bring their lunch (school bought or packed) with them to the Page Pals meeting. Mrs. Poston will provide treats.
Why did Mrs. Poston start Page Pals?
Why not? Mrs. Poston started Page Pals for many reasons. For one thing, Mrs. Poston has participated in book club meetings herself and has really enjoyed them. Reading for pleasure is so important. Many kids view reading as a job, something they have to do to make parents or teachers happy. Reading should never feel like a chore. If students learn that reading can be so enjoyable, they will be more motivated to read routinely, which will increase their success in all subject areas. If you have ever been a part of a book club, you know that higher level thinking that takes place when discussing the story.
