February 12, 2012
Hello, friends. Thanks for checking out our news page. This is the 20th
e-newsletter of the school year. We've reached the 100 day mark of the school
year! Right now, in 6th grade, we're learning about things like the Industrial
Revolution and the American Revolution. In 8th grade, we're learning about
America in the 1930's ... I'm very excited that pitchers and catchers will report
this month for the
Cincinnati Reds! (Feel free to cast your vote in the Poll of
the Week regarding the Reds...) Hope your upcoming week is a good one.
Mr. Renner
P.S. This week's music is brought to
you by The Avett Brothers.
6th Grade:
-3rd Quarter Extra Credit is posted on the Handouts Page. It can be turned
in any time in the 3rd quarter.
http://www.teacherweb.com/oh/saintignatius/mrrenner/photo1.aspx -Our Chapter 7 Writing Assignment (Research Paper) is in full swing. Students
should be in the research phase of gathering resources, reading them, &
running them by me. I am available most days in study hall to answer
questions, approve sources, and for students to preview the "box of greatness".
I've saved quite a few from the 1,000+ I've graded over the years.
-Power School is current. We've had about 6 grades this quarter. Keep in mind
we'll have about 15 grades this quarter.

8th Grade:
-3rd Quarter Extra Credit is now available:
http://www.teacherweb.com/oh/saintignatius/mrrenner/photo4.aspx -Power School is current. We've had 7-8 grades so far this quarter.
https://saintignatius.powerschool.com/public/home.html -Our 3rd quarter writing assignment will be assigned this week.
It will be a reflection/persuasive essay on some contemporary issues through
our
Junior Scholastic news debate articles. Students will have about 2 weeks
to complete their essays.
-Students need to make sure they're reviewing notes 10 to 15 minutes a night
on those days we take notes. One of my goals is to establish ongoing study
habits to prevent cramming for a Test the night before. These habits will serve
them well in high school. I'm always happy to review with students in study hall.
Renner's Rockets (Homeroom 308):
-Our 2nd and final Homeroom Mass is Tuesday, February 14th. We'll be
practicing over at Church on Monday.
-6th grade meeting took place last week in the cafeteria regarding confirmation,
high school, and Camp. We had a pretty good crowd.
Picture of the Week:
We were reading an article in
Junior Scholastic about the
invention of the internet and my 6th graders seemed amazed
that I still own a car with a cassette tape player!

Of course, I've had them bewildered all year when they
learned Mr. Renner doesn't own an ipod, ipad, x-box, wii, or
a TV with satellite, cable, or antenna attached to it.
