Your Adventure                      

Imagine that you will be dropped off in the middle of the Canadian wilderness and you are expected to survive the full 2 weeks. In order to successfully complete your mission, you must pick a role in your group, and you must rely on each other to help you survive.

1.   Assemble and name your team of 4-5 members.

2.   Each team member must choose one of the roles below:

 

Roles

The Survival Specialist is responsible for researching survival skills in the wilderness.

The Reporter is responsible for interviewing the author of Hatchet and finding out important and interesting facts.

The Pilot is responsible for all of the research on airplanes and flight aviation.

The Explorer is responsible for Canadian geography.

The Wildlife Specialist is responsible for research of Canadian wildlife.

 

3.  Please use the links under each section to answer the questions or complete the tasks for your specialty. Each team member will create his or her own PowerPoint presentation to present his or her answers to the questions or to prove the completion of the task.

4.  Save your PowerPoint presentation, with the name of your specialty as the file name, in the Team Folder in the Grade 6 Student Drop Box.

Tasks and Resources                       

Survival Specialist:

Rules of Survival: Find 5 Rules of Survival to live by.

How to Build a Fire: Write out the steps to build a fire.

First Aid Kit: What should a first aid kit include?

How to use a Compass: Explain how to use the compass—alone.

 

 

Reporter: Click here and read to learn more about the author, Gary Paulsen./

 

Using the information you learned and your own words, report on Mr. Paulsen’s life.  Use several slides, and divide up the information as you see fit. Use bullet points.

THEN:

Click on LIBRARY. Find the date of publication for 15-20 of Mr. Paulsen’s novels. Create a timeline of novels written by Mr. Paulsen. Include the titles and dates of publication for each novel.

 

Pilot:

 Click here to learn about a Cessna 406 aircraft.  Write  1-2 paragraphs,  in your own words,  about the airplane.  

THEN:

Create a slide or two that is an advertisement for Northern Kentucky-Greater Cincinnati airport.  Convince customers to fly out of CVG by showing what the airport has to offer. Click here to go to the airport website.

Explorer:

Click here to learn more about Canada. List some interesting facts about Canada. Your slide titles might include:

·       Provinces

·       Climate

·       Population

·       People

·       Resources

 

 THEN:

Canadian National AnthemClick here to find the lyrics to Canada's National Anthem.  Copy and paste the lyrics into a slide. How is different from the USA’s? How is it the same?

 

 

Wildlife Specialist:

Click here to find Animals native to Canada. Pick 3 animals native to Canada, take notes, and write about the physical characteristics and interesting tidbits about each animal. This could also include animals to stay away from while in the wild. Each animal should have at least 3 slides.

Conclusion

 

You are finished with all assignments and therefore rescued from the wilderness! Due to all of your hard work and cooperation with group members, you are now "experts" in your field and have the knowledge to teach others. Have fun presenting and sharing with the other students!
