And Now. . .Let's Make A Movie
For your next project, you will be creating a short movie about disease
prevention. You will work in teams of 2-4 people. You’ll use your classroom
knowledge and the internet to research the disease itself, symptoms of the
disease, how the disease is spread, and its prevention. Then you’ll work
together to plan out the movie, and film it. Your movies will be shown to
your classmates and, if possible, other classes.
Your movie must include the use of a microphone.
Here are some ideas for ways to do that:
1. You could have a talk show and have a Disease Specialist talk about
the disease. One person would be the interviewer, and one the Disease
Specialist.
2. You could be a news reporter, reporting on ways people are NOT
preventing disease—and then show them doing the right thing.
3. You could have a panel discussion, with each person on the panel
discussing the items above.
We want these presentations to be entertaining without being over-the-top
silly, so use your creativity as well as your knowledge to create a good
project. Have a good time with it. Just don’t go crazy.
You will be doing most of the work on this project in and around the Computer
Lab, so keep that in mind as you plan. Here’s the schedule of events: We’ve
never completed this project before, so we’ll adjust as needed.
February 9:
1. Project will be introduced
2. Students form groups
3. Students choose a disease from a list of 11. Only two groups per
homeroom may choose a particular disease
4. Students will be given a planning sheet and a storyboard planning
sheet to begin their planning.
February 16:
1. Students will receive feedback on the planning they’ve done so far.
2. Planning continues. Students should be writing scripts
3. Remember that you may bring in costume pieces—but you will not be
able to leave the room to change clothes. Props rock! We will provide the
microphone.
February 23:
1. Students will receive feedback on the planning and script-writing
2. Students will rehearse their movies. Please DO NOT bring in props or
costume pieces for this class
March 1:
1. Students should bring in props and costume pieces. Be sure they are
all appropriate for school.
2. Students will film their movies. A teacher or another student will do
the filming if needed
Sometime after March 1, you will have a “movie day” in Science class to enjoy
your work.
