Soundtrack
We’ve just finished discussing the ways music can affect mood—your mood, the
mood of a movie, the way music is used in our world. Using the novel THE
OUTSIDERS, identify 10 key events from the novel.
Next, determine a song that will fit well with this event—as if it were in a
movie. You are welcome to think of songs from other movies you’ve seen, but
be sure to mix it up. You may not use any songs already on the soundtrack to
THE OUTSIDERS. There’s a great resource—and time waster—I’ll share with you
called the Internet Movie Database. Certainly use songs you listen to, songs
you hear your parents listen to, whatever will work to set the mood.
Above all, your song must be school appropriate.
Use Word.
For each event, you must list:
Event (chapter and page number in parentheses)
Song title
Artist
Several sentences explaining why you chose this song for this event. Feel
free to use lines from the song to illustrate your point. Consider some of
these points: Is it the beat? The lyrics? The tone? What do you imagine the
characters are feeling? How is this reflected in the song?
Format your document attractively. Use up to three appropriate pictures, if
you like.
Bonus:
If you finish early, you may. . .
Add more events to your soundtrack
Design the album cover
Design the cover for the DVD
Write the lyrics to a song that could be on the soundtrack—again, keeping it
all school appropriate.
You will have three weeks, over the course of four weeks, to work on this
assignment in the Lab.
Feel free to use the Internet Movie Database for music ideas--but
stay focused on this assignment, please.
