TEXT
	“Chemistry the Central Science 11E”

INTRODUCTION
The Advanced Placement Chemistry Course is designed to be the
equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the first
college year. It requires individuals that possess that extra drive and
ability to enable them to take advantage of this acceleration.

OBJECTIVES
One of the objectives of this course is to prepare for the A.P. Exam
given on Tuesday May 7, 2012 all students are expected to take this exam. In
addition to the AP Exam a comprehensive final will be given at the end of the
year.
Another objective of this class is to prepare students for the
demands made upon them during their early college years. Students will have
written homework every night. Students are encouraged to work either in
small groups or with partners on many of these assignments. Difficulties on
these assignments can be addressed with me before school, after school or
during the “activity periods”.
The last objective of this course is to provide students with
interest and talent, an opportunity to work to their potential.

STRUCTURE
Class will be divided into five lecture periods and two lab periods.
The laboratory exercises will be conducted in two period blocks of time.
Exams will be given on Tuesdays during the two period block of time. The
Wednesday Lab will take Part I on Tuesday and Part II on Wednesday. Not all
tests will require the double period.
Students will be expected to attend both labs and lecture during the
mornings of Minimester. Minimester will count on the third nine weeks.
Students will be required to attend a mandatory review session
on Sunday prior to the exam. Permission from the Dean of Students must be
obtained to be excused. Students will be required to take a comprehensive
final exam at the end of second semester.
GRADING
Grades will be calculated on a total point system. Examinations will
comprise70% of the grade with homework and quizzes making up the remaining
30%. In the event of a failing grade on a test, arrangements will be made to
take another exam. The Laboratory AP Chemistry grade will be based on
completion of experiment and laboratory report. All Lab Reposts must be
unique for each student. Lab Reports must be computer generated.

Requirements
Students must bring their own TI-84 or above calculator, textbook, AP
notebook, homework each day. Assignments will be given on Teacher Web and
Power Points will be on Net Classroom under “Shared Documents”.

Grading
90-100	A
80-89	B
70-79	C
60-69	D
0-59	F

Teacher Access

I will be in room 40 everyday during break, Friday during study hall and
almost everyday after school if an appointment has been made. If you are
unable to complete your homework I strongly suggest you come for help before
class. Many times it is easier to do your homework after school with me and
get it completed.
