Information for Vince Miller’s 6th Grade VPA Math Classes at Classen School of
Advanced Studies (2010-2011)
Class meets in Portable 3. Textbook is McDougal Littell Middle School Math:
Course 1.
Graph paper is to be used for all homework and classwork unless otherwise
specified. The graph paper should be pre-punched to fit in a 3-ring binder;
it should measure 8½” x 11” when inserted in the 3-ring binder. Students
should come to class with at least two (2) black-lead pencils (sharpened by
the time the bell rings) and 2 red ink pens (or pencils) for occasional
grading of work. A pencil eraser will likely be handy. WORK DONE IN INK WILL
GET A GRADE OF ZERO; WORK MUST BE SHOWN.
A straight-edge (ruler) will be needed (measurements should be in both metric
and English units), as will a protractor; calculators are not needed for this
class. A math notebook is required; it should be a 3-ring binder (preferably
a 2”, “D” ring binder), with dividers and tabs. Tabs should be labeled as
Benchmark Tests, Class Notes, Handouts, Homework, Quizzes, Vocabulary, and
Warm-ups.
Homework will almost always be assigned.
My grading policy and scale are as follows:
Quizzes/Tests 80% A = 90% to 100% D = 60% to 69%
Homework 10% B = 80% to 89% F = <60%
Notebook 10% C = 70% to 79%
If your student needs additional math help, I am usually at school until at
least 3:30 p.m. Tutoring (free) is also available from juniors and seniors
who are members of Mu Alpha Theta (a national mathematics honor organization
whose members have at least a “B” average in mathematics). Mu Alpha Theta
tutoring will begin in September and will meet after school (days and room to
be determined).
