PE Expectations

Physical Education Overview

The first few weeks we will discuss the rules and expectations for our class.
The following is a brief example:

1: Students will understand the procedures for entering and exiting the gym.
Students will understand the gym is like any other classroom. Students will
be expected to enter and exit the gym quietly. Safety is always the first
priority in our class.

2: Clothing: We will express to kids that flip flops and sandals are not
appropriate footwear for Physical Education. Coaches also express that
clothing might get dirty throughout class activites and that students should
not wear dress clothes to class.

3: Class Expectations: Students will enter the gym and either warm up with a
few laps while listening to music or will jog outside. Students will then go
through a “brief” stretching routine. Rules and expectations will be reviewed
every class period. This can include listening while coaches are speaking,
respecting others, giving their best effort, what the STOP signal is, etc.

4: Equipment: Students will understand how important it is to take care of
our equipment. Students will help distribute and collect equipment during
class. It will be emphasized that it is ok for equipment to break if used
properly but it is not ok to carelessly break it.

5: Lesson Plan: We will explain to the kids what the plan is for that
particular day. Giving the students a daily goal of things to accomplish can
often be a positive experience.

6: Closure: Students will often get SO involved during class that it will
spill over into the classroom. We will give the students a brief opportunity
to “wind down” near the end of class. This will include: light stretching,
talking about class, trivia questions or a drink of water prior to lining up
for their teacher.
