I graduated from Yukon High School a LONG time ago! I studied youth
ministry at Ozark Christian College, then transferred to Oklahoma State
University to finish my teaching degree. I became interested in learning
Spanish in 8th grade, when my youth minister took us on a mission trip to
Juarez, Mexico. The little kids would point at me and laugh, and I wanted
to know what they were saying about me! So, my freshman year of high
school, I enrolled in Spanish I and have been hooked ever since!
During my college days, I spent two summers studying in Spain. I have also
visited my youth minister, who is now a missionary in Ecuador. I love to
travel to Spanish-speaking countries, and had the opportunity to take a
group of students to Spain the summers of 2005 & 2009, and to Costa Rica in
2007. I want to keep my language skills sharp, so every few years I try to
travel somewhere that allows me to use my Spanish.
My first year of teaching I headed south to the Houston area. I came back
to Oklahoma in 1993 and taught for over ten years at Putnam City North High
School and one year at Yukon High School. I am thrilled to now be at Deer
Creek! My husband and I built a house in the district and love
being a part of this community!
My husband, Michael, is a former teacher who now works for AT&T as a
technical sales executive doing "grown-up work." Our son, Zack, finished
work on his MBA in August, 2005 and is Vice-President for Development &
Planning at Ideal Homes in Norman. He is engaged to be married to Emily
Lindford in December, 2010. I'm excited to have some more estrogen in our
family!
In our spare time, we enjoy serving at our church, Quail Springs Church of
Christ. I am also an avid scrapbooker and OSU fan!
