About the Teacher

My Professional Background

In 1
994, I graduated from Oklahoma State University with my bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education.  As I chose to stay at home with my children during their preschool and elementary years, this will be my sixth year in the classroom.  I taught high school English for three years in Cushing, Oklahoma, and this will be my third year teaching seventh grade grammar and composition at Deer Creek Middle School.

In my free time, I am also a freelance writer and develop Christian curriculum for families and teens.  For more information about what I write, visit www.angelasanderswrites.com.

I am passionate about the written word, but even more passionate about helping young people grow and learn what they need to know to become successful, independent young adults.  I am very excited to experience the year ahead with your child!

My Classroom Goals

By the end of this course, I want to see;

1) Every student demonstrate confidence in his or her very real ability to write and communicate a specific message to a specific audience,

2) Every student understand the importance of correct grammar and punctuation and varied sentence structure and to benefit personally from his or her knowledge of these conventions in other areas of life, and

3) Every student improve their writing, interpersonal, and critical listening skills to a noticeable degree, while learning how to show support of their peers and value the efforts of others.

I have confidence that every one of my students has the ability to learn and achieve if only they put forth a little effort and choose to receive instruction with an open mind and cooperative spirit.

My Family

I have been married to my best friend, Todd Sanders, for eighteen years.  Together, we have two wonderful children, Hunter (15) and Hope (12), who keep life exciting and a lot of fun for both of us.  Our greatest joy in life has been watching them grow into the people they were designed to be.  For more than sixteen years, Todd served as a youth minister in Cushing, OK, Oklahoma City, and in Tulsa.  He now works for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma in conjunction with Falls Creek youth camp and tries to make himself available to local churches in need of pulpit supply and interim staff.  In our free time, my family and I like to watch movies, listen to music, play games, listen to the stories people tell and tell our own, and make funny videos.  No matter what we happen to be doing, laughter is always a big part of it!
