SYLLABUS

Technology Class:

Our purpose for technology classes is to help the student gain a better understanding of practical applications for everyday life.  The classes will cover, but are not limited to, the following:  Robotics, Video Production, Keyboarding, Garage Band, Comic Life, Word, Drawing Tools, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Web Design, and Photoshop.     We have three technology teachers and every twelve weeks the students will rotate to a new teacher throughout the year.

Sixth grade classes will be separate from 7th/8th grade classes, with 7/8-grade working on more advanced projects.  Sixth grade assignments will be introductory in nature.

Class Rules and Procedures:

1.     Respect all people in the classroom!  Treat others as you would like to be treated.

2.     Be respectful of computer equipment.  If your computer is not working, ask for assistance.  Do not intentionally sabotage another student’s computer.  All rules contained within the student handbook apply in this lab.  “I did not know it is a rule”, is no excuse.

Students will not be allowed to change their desktop screens or any settings on the computer, i.e., the appearance of the mouse pointer.  No games are to be played on the computer without the permission of a teacher.

3.     No food or drink at the computers.

4.     Keep your password a secret.  These passwords are for your protection.

5.     When entering the room at the beginning of class, immediately log-in and begin work as indicated on the board at the front of the room.

6.     During lecture & classroom discussion:

a.     Listen while others are talking.

b.     Stay in seats.

c.      Keep hands to yourself.

d.     Raise hand if a question needs to be asked.

During lab (working on computer assignments):  In addition to the above:

Raise your hand if a question arises and wait for the teacher to make it around the room.  Help people around you with computer questions, if possible.  Please do not monopolize their time or complete assignments for them.  Be patient.

7.     At the end of class, log off equipment properly, push your chair in, and leave your area clean.

Grading:

Grading will be come from daily assignments, projects will be graded with a rubric that the student will have at the beginning of the project, and tests will be counted double.  We do not have textbooks for everything that we teach, so study guides will be provided before the test.

Supplies:

Students need to bring to class each day a pen or pencil.  Video Production requires each student to have a notebook.
