Does the school have a filter system?

Deer Creek is committed to making sure that students are safe when they are
surfing the web. There is a strong filter in place, and that filter is
being upgraded again during the 2008-2009 school year in order to stay as
current with our system as possible. If a student attempts to log on to an
inappropriate or blocked site then a warning is issued through the computer
screen. If the students tries to log on again the computer will block them
out completely. The Director of Information and Systems Technology can
monitor all traffic to the web through a remote access system. If a student
has attempted to log on to inappropriate sites the Director sends the print
out of that students record to the building principal. At that time,
district discipline and internet usage policies are reviewed for infractions.

Can students access social networking sites such as My Space at school?

All social networking sites are blocked for students. However, it is not
unusual for students to occasionally find a way around the filter and then,
once discovered, the school must adjust again to meet the demands of the new
pathway.

Can the school help if my student is being bullied on My Space?

Administrators and counselors have a direct line to contact My Space if an
issue arises that is deemed inappropriate, unsafe, or falls under cyber-
bullying and it is interfering with school operations. Students under 14
are not permitted to have a site by My Space regulations. Any site reported
attached to an under-aged student (under 14) will be immediately taken down
by My Space upon the schools contact. Students who have sites, and are over
14, will have those sites reviewed by My Space and they may delete that site
or call authorities depending on the situation. Disciplinary action may be
imposed according to the school handbook if the situation is disrupting the
school environment.
