Writing Test

Students are required to write a five-paragraph essay.  If an entry is not legible, it is not graded and the child receives zero credit.  The test is February 24th this year.  Be sure to stay ON TOPIC!!!

Here is an example of a five-paragraph essay:

There are lots of animals in the world.  Many of these animals have been domesticated to live in peace with man.  Of all the animals that people can make pets, cats stand out.  Cats have many distinguishing characteristics.  Some of the cat's characteristics are its ability to be quiet, its independence, and its need for lots of sleep.
One of the cat's characteristics is its ability to be so quiet.  The pads on a cat's feet help the cat to move silently.  Also, the cat is able to retract its claws so that its feet do not catch on carpet.  Cats often walk around without people ever hearing them.
Another of the cat's characteristics is its independence.  Cats don't always like being around people.  Cats do not seem to rely on anyone; they come and go as they please.  Most cats are very independent.
One last characteristics of the cat is its need for sleep.  Did you know that most cats sleep an average of eighteen hours everyday?  Even if a cat just woke up, it may go right back to sleep.  Cats require a lot of sleep all through their lives.
In conclusion, cats have three main characteristics that set them apart from other animals.  Cats are just some of the many animals that make good pets for people.
