Tomorrow we will celebrate Veteran's Day at Lakehoma. We will have an
assembly starting at 8:15. I am hoing that all veterans will be attending
tomorrow. We owe them so much!! Their sacrifice ensures that our freedom is
protected. It is because of their unselfish sacrifice that we enjoy the most
freedom of any country in the world. Thank you Veterans and active duty
service people!
I am very honored to have many veterans in my family. My favorite is my dad
who served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. As a child,
I never really thought about what my dad did, but as I look back on it now, I
am so proud to be his daughter. My dad is one of 12 children. He grew up on
a farm in northeastern Oklahoma in a small community near Claremore. With 11
brothers and sisters, there was little extra money for any fun activities.
He worked growing up and when the time came, was drafted into the Army. I
remember him telling us about leaving Tulsa and going to Fort Sill by bus.
Once there, they were sorted out and he GOT to travel on a plane all the way
to Fort Lewis, Washington. (near Seattle) For a small town boy, that was a
million miles away. I remember hearing all these stories, but like any
child, I didn't think much else about it. Now I understand that my dad was
really scared, nervous and actually didn't want to go across the country to
Washington state. However, being the man he is, my dad never complained,
got on that plane and made the best of the time he served in the Army. I know
it was very hard on him to leave his family (family is most important to
Dad). He led by example...actually he still does lead by example...not just
telling us the right thing to do, but to do the right thing even when no one
is looking. I believe that is called integrity! Thanks Dad for not just
telling us but showing us what it is lead a life of integrity.
My Great Uncle Johnny served in the Navy during WWII. He was at Pearl Harbor
and had very colorful, interesting stories to tell about that time in our
history! I miss hearing his stories! I have two uncles who served in the
Air Force. One during the Viet Nam conflict and the other served for 20
years at various duty stations throughout the world. Another uncle was a 2nd
Lt. in the Marine Corps. I have 4 cousins who are/were in the Air Force,
National Guard, or the Army. My 15 year old nephew is the the Army ROTC at
his high school in Texas. You see in my family, respect for the military
runs deep! Thanks guys for your service! I am so proud you are my family.
I know first hand what a sacrifice you made to serve your country!
I am sorry to drone on, but I am so proud of my family members who have
served or are serving in the military! Thank you for allowing me to brag on
my family!
Mrs. Carter is working on migrating the data for Study Island so that we can
use that program very shortly. As soon as I get user names/passwords, I
will share with you as that is another way they can earn points for the
reading program. They are doing so well with book talks! I wish you could
hear them talk about the books they read the night before. I am so proud!
We are still working on vowels and have added digraphs sh and th. In math we
are introducing money and continuing to work on addition. They are getting
faster with facts!
We are Table 7 this week in the cafeteria. We are working hard to get that
trophy!! We have earned the trophy once, but it would be nice to win it
again. :-)
Congratulations to Braxton and Brynnen! Braxton is our Citizen of
Character for October (Self-discipline) and Brynnen is our wonderful
writer! They will be recognized at Rise and Shine Monday! Great job, guys!
We still have snack each day after specials. They eat at 10:45 (brunch)
so they are hungry by 1:40. Thanks for sending a snack with your child.
Remember that they can bring a water bottle from home to drink during the day.
We have 19 students now.
I am really enjoying your children. Thanks for sharing them with me this
year! Keep reading to your child. See you tomorrow!
