About The Teacher

This is my 34th year to teach at Lakehoma. I was the Media
Specialist for the first three years that Lakehoma was open. I then moved to
First Grade and have been there for 31 years.

I graduated from Claremore High School in Claremore, Oklahoma (Home of Will
Rogers and the Claremore Zebras). I then moved to Stillwater and graduated
from Oklahoma State University in 1978. GO POKES!!

My family consists of my dad who still lives in Claremore (in the house
we grew up in), my brother and his family. I lost my mother on June 30 to
cancer. I adopted a new little miniature schnauzer named Skittles. He is 6
years old. My nephew Micah chose that name for "our" puppy.

My brother John lives in Texas and he has 3 precious boys that I adore. My
oldest nephew is 16 and is now a Junior, my middle nephew is 14 and
is a Freshman and the youngest one is 11 and is in Sixth Grade.

My nephew Derek is a Boy Scout who has achieved the status of Eagle Scout. He
is a member of the ROTC and enjoys that very much.

Kendall begins his fifth year as a Boy Scout. He became an Eagle Scout this
summer. I will be attending his Eagle Ceremony later this Fall.
He plays football on the Junior High team.

Micah is beginning his first year as a Boy Scout. He is enjoying scouting!

In January,2004 my only niece, Lauren was born in Texas. She is
now seven years old and into everything! She loves to dress up
and have tea parties. She will start Second Grade this fall. She also
loves to shop...she got that from me!! We have fun at Penn Square Mall.
After 3 boys, it is certainly different having a niece! We do
have fun with her though and I certainly am not in the least bit biased
about any of my niece or nephews!! They are all perfect and if you don't
believe me, just ask! :-)

I received my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from OSU and in
November of 2000 received National Certification as an Early Childhood
Generalist. I went through the renewal process a year ago and last October
was notified that I had renewed my National Board Certificate for another 10
years.

I am active in our Mustang Education Association, serving as past
President and as Treasurer this year. I am on the Oklahoma Education
Association's Affiliate Relations committee. I was selected to be on a
National Education Association committee that deals with technology and
online Professional Development. This committee has met several times and I
am fortunate to have traveled to Chicago,Minneapolis and San Francisco for
the meetings. The work we are doing is brand new and is exciting to be a
part of.

I was a teacher/member of the committee to develop a policy regarding the
use of religious symbols, materials and activities for our school district.
This was an interesting committee and I believe our work was successful. You
have probably heard about the "nativity" controversy in Mustang a few
Decembers ago. This policy is a direct result of that problem and sets new
guidelines to hopefully prevent anything like this in the future.
