Oklahoma has a state reading award called the Sequoyah Award named after the Cherokee Indian who developed the Cherokee alphabet. Students in Grade 3-6 read three books or listen to three books on the Sequoyah masterlist, then vote on their favorite. Voting will take place in April.
At Creek, there will be an extra incentive to read these books. If Third Graders read and pass three AR tests, they will be able to check out three books this year. Fourth Graders need to read and pass four and Fifth Graders need to read and pass five additional books on this list to check out three books. These books range from Grades 2-6 on their reading level. Students may read on all of these levels no matter their reading range. |
