READING HOMEWORK - "Family Times" booklets will go home each week
spotlighting the skills/words that we are learning. There are 5
activities. This is a fun way to reinforce what we are learning at school.
Repetition is so important. Thank you.

Read for 15 minutes every night! You can take turns with
your child reading out loud. First graders love for you to read to them,
and they love to look for words they know in the books. Those first graders
who are reading need to be reading for 15 minutes as well.

SPELLING HOMEWORK - A spelling list will go home at the beginning of each
week. Make sure your child can spell and write each one. Also, if you are
doing the activities in the "Family Times" booklet, then you are also
practicing spelling skills. Our test will be on Friday.

MATH - Encourage your child by talking about math concepts through every day
activities such as cooking, counting, adding, subtracting. For example:

The recipe says to add 3 eggs. I put two eggs in. How many do I still
need?
I have 5 nickels in my pocket. If I give you 3, how many are left?
There are 3 cars in front of us. Which car are we in the line? Fourth
