When do I send the reading log time sheet back to school?

The reading time sheet should be returned at the end of each
month. Students are required to read 80 minutes per weeek. They
can be turned in late for 80%. If no reading log is turned in, the
student will recieve a 60%. If the log sheet is misplaced, write
down the aproximate time read on notebook paper and have parent
and student sign and date it.

Why are some library books too hard for my child to read?

Your child gets to pick one AR book that is on their level and
one book for fun. The fun book may be a book that you can read to
your child or may be just a book to look at. In second grade, it
is very important for your child to be read to as well as
getting a chance to practice themselves.

When am I tardy?

The handbook states that your child is tardy after the second bell.
If your child comes to school after the second bell, you will need
to check in through the office and get a tardy slip.

Is there a snack time?

We will have snack time around 9:30 every morning. You can send
a healthy snack to school with your child each day if they would
like to participate. Pretzels, crackers, fruit, dry cereal, or
the like would be appropriate.

What is my child's AR goal?

In second grade, students are required to pass at least 5 AR tests
on their reading level each nine weeks. I try to encourage
students to take even more AR tests by offering a reward when
certain point levels are reached. Although AR is only a small part
of a reading program, I have found that when students pass more
tests on their reading level, they greatly improve their
understanding of story elements, details, and vocabulary.
