Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful break. I am excited about the
second half of second grade and we will be doing lots of learning, exploring
and practicing so get ready.

Parents, this nine weeks brings us to one of the toughtest skills in second
grade-2 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. We will be starting
right away and will be doing lots and lots of practice at school. Don't
worry if your child doesn't get it right away. Learning place value and the
steps it takes to solve these kinds of problems may take some extra work and
correction on some assignments, but we'll eventually get the hang of it. If
an assignment comes home that says "correct and return", please help your
child to correct it and return it asap. Thanks!

I will continue to update the spelling link each month so you can get a new
list right away if needed.

Continue to listen to your child read each night. We are working to our goal
of 90 words correct per minute by the end of the year and the best way to
reach that goal is by daily oral reading. Thanks again for all you do!
