What happens when my child is ill?
Assignments and necessary materials will be available at the office as soon
as possible. For each day's absence, there is one day's period for make up.
Please contact the school at 324-4567 as soon as possible to have the work
ready to be picked up at the front office.
--------------------------------------
What about LATE PAPERS?
THERE SHOULD BE NO LATE PAPERS under normal circumstances. However,
BEGINNING AUGUST 21, LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED when the child has been
absent, one day extension per day's absence. It takes time to play catch-up.
It is the child's responsibility to inquire about missed assignments and
submit any and all work on time.
--------------------------------------
Will there be points taken because of the paper being late?
Definitely. Usually, a maximum grade of 75% will be offered. After
instruction has been given and work time presented, if the work is not
completed during class, it is to go home, be completed, and presented when it
is due. No day's assignments should extend more than one HOUR.
--------------------------------------
May I contact you if there is a difficulty?
Most definitely! Feel free to call me at home (842-1761)if there is an
immediate problem that needs discussion. Of course, you may call the school
(324-4567) during the day, and I will get back to you asap.
Another point of contact is the computer e-mail at home: fcoble@cox.net or
at school: coblef@mustangps.org.
--------------------------------------
May my child receive a better grade if lower graded papers are reworked?
That is optional. If a child wishes to improve a lower grade, he/she may
correct the mistakes and present it to me the FOLLOWING school day. An
average of the first and second grades will be recorded. However, if there
is no effort to attempt improvement within a day or two, the original grade
will stand, even if it is a zero.
--------------------------------------
AR points are expected each quarter. Why?
This is an attempt to assure that each child is READING with comprehension at
his/her own level. All who attend a Mustang elementary or middle school are
aware of the tasks needed. I read to my class daily after lunch, and most
books are AR listed. The student must take his/her own test following my
finishing of the book. The choice is up to each individual to take advantage
of a good book and extra points.
--------------------------------------
Are daily DARES required?
Yes. I try to include items in various subjects that are current, reviews,
and will be coming in the weeks ahead. At this time, grades are NOT
recorded for the few items. However, if there is no attempt to practice
during the period offered, then, grades CAN be taken. Something new for
this year is the MATH MINUTE worksheet. It is required. We will check each
section daily and make required corrections.
--------------------------------------
What if my child "forgot" the assigned work?
One option is to REDO the work during the day it is due for complete
credit. Another option is to take a lower grade by submitting it on the
following school day as soon as possible after they enter the classroom.
--------------------------------------
When do you collect the papers?
Papers are collected during each subject's time during the day. I do not
take English papers during math, for example. (One would probably not
practice the trombone during reading class.......)

What about bringing a "special" pet to class?
Because of so many children with allergies and/or phobias, a phone call or e-
mail to me PRIOR to bringing the pet would be appreciated. Also, I prefer
that the pet/parent stay with the pet and take it home after "show & tell."
