ANY PAPER THAT THE CHILD IS DISPLEASED WITH MAY BE CORRECTED, SUBMITTED, AND AVERAGED FOR A BETTER GRADE THE FOLLOWING DAY. Please ASK your child what his/her daily assignments are and SHOW YOU what has been accomplished on a regular basis. Continue to review basic math facts. They are necessary for our daily work and morning DARES. Writing neatly and correctly is necessary. If the work cannot be read, it will be considered as incorrect. Proper numerals and letters are basic requirements. Complete sentences are most helpful with science and social studies as well as "completion" questions in reading. All assignments are given ORALLY after instruction and WRITTEN on the whiteboard daily. It is the child's responsibility to write each assignment in the AGENDA regularly. Remember to send a baby picture, kindergarten photo, and fifth grade snap shot or school photo. These will be used in our DVD for the end of year program and returned to you after they have been scanned by Mr. Hopkins. Here is wishing each of you a joyous Thanksgiving weekend ... NEXT WEEK. Take a few minutes to genuinely reflect on "What it means to be an American." Share your thoughts and ideas with your child. We are fortunate in so many areas. Enjoy your family time. Begin thinking about the possibilities for the COLONIAL DRESS that is required for January 16th. We will be going to the OKLAHOMA STATE CAPITOL for the day. There will be a "dress rehersal" on January 8th to see what is needed. Several persons have been volunteering their sewing skills. Check out "Colonial Williamsburg" to get some ideas for your child's wardrobe. We will NEED at least 5 volunteers to assist us at the Capitol. No, you do not need to dress in colonial style....buy you are certainly welcome to do so. Reading: Monday, again, we will be teaming with Mrs. Pennington and Mrs. Walters for 30 minutes each to have special ENRICHMENT/work/reviews in READING, MATH, and SOCIAL STUDIES WORLD WAR II time is the setting for our newest story "Passage of Freedom." It is an excerpt from a biography. Please, if information is available to enhance this story, please SHARE with your child... and us. It is information that kids honestly need to be aware of. Workbook pages 63--70 have been assigned and should be due Monday before Thanksgiving. This is a wonderful biographical excerpt from a young child's point of view. It should make us think about how fortunate we really are... especially at this season of Thanksgiving. English: Please observe your child's writing habits. Legibility is a necessity. DOZENS of commonly misspelled words are in the back of the AGENDA. I would highly recommend that your child read these words to you so they you can tell how he/she is doing. Text work as well as worksheets are being discussed and used regularly. Math: Continue working on multiplication facts. Area and Perimeter are now being reviewed daily. Worksheets are frequently used to assist the students' ability to work more accurately. We will look at Circumference and Volume, too. SOCIAL STUDIES: We are moving to CHAPTER 5 to cover the COLONIAL period in preparation for our rare trip to the OKLAHOMA STATE CAPITOL on January 16. Colonial period clothing is REQUIRED for that trip. Information was presented at that time, and the class has been given web sites and other info. to aid in getting those "costumes" for minimal cost... if any. More information will be given as it arrives. Several worksheets have been assigned...Pp. 43++++. Science: Chapter 12 has been selected for the next few weeks as per PASS requirements. Workbook pages will be utilized frequently. Ask about our MAGNETS and aluminum foil fun. Was something learned? I honestly believe so.
