This week we are learning about the long a sound spelled with sneaky e, ai, and ay.  Also in reading, we are learning about nouns (person, place, animal, objects).  In writing, we are working on where to put end marks and that capital letters go at the beginning of each new sentence.  In math we are learning about dimes.  We are learning what it means to be a veteran/hero/soldier and the different branches of the military.

We have also been working on using quotation marks (sometimes we call them talking marks) correctly while reading.  Please make sure that your child is reading with a ‘voice’ when there are quotation marks.  This helps with reading fluency as well as comprehension.  We have learned that good readers should be able to read with expression, but it takes practice.  Most of our stories from now on will contain these marks.

Don’t forget that SQUARE 1 ART orders are due by Tuesday, Nov. 10th (tomorrow).  These make great Christmas gifts!  Please make checks payable to Mustang Creek Elementary.

This week is National Young Readers Week!  To celebrate, we will be selling #1 suckers each morning before school for $1.00.  All proceeds will go to purchase books for our Media Center.

This week is Freedom Week and our Creek students have been issued a challenge.  We’d like every child to bring $1 in order to buy care packages for our Oklahoma soldiers.  Our goal is to send 15 packages.  Help us out!  Thanks!

REMINDER:  As of Nov. 11, Mrs. Earla Meek will be taking over for me.  As of dec. 1, Mrs. Ann Nick will be our substitute teacher.  Both of these ladies are certified teachers and have the students’ best interest at heart.  I know they will do an awesome job during my absence!

***Hat Day is this Friday!***

MUSTANG CREEK MEMORIBILIA is for sale on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.  You can purchase notepads or bracelets for $1 and pencils 2/$1.

**While I’m out, our class website will not be kept up to date weekly.  Please make sure to read the SharpNotes when they come home, and be sure to keep the spelling list.
