Dear Parents,
It has been a good and peaceful testing week. Thank you to all who
provided snacks. We feasted every day and it was much enjoyed.
Thank you to Mrs. Brainerd and Mrs. O'Meilia for coordinating it
We will make Valentine bags today for our party on Tuesday. Sixth
graders still like Valentines. :-) They need only sign their name
and bring one for everyone.
Friday we will have an oral spelling bee to determine participants in
the upcoming diocesan spelling bee.
We are starting a new novel next week in LA: Crispin,Cross of
Lead. We have copies for everyone so they do not need to be
purchased.
In religion we will begin our study of the New Testament. While we
will still work with "Christ Our Life: Old Testament" from time to
time, primarily we will be working in a book entitled "New
Testament." It is a different format and students will have daily
study guides.
As always, your children are delightful. Please let me know if you
have questions or comments. Thanks to all for all you do. Evy Gisler

My dear parents,
Christmas and Epiphany have come and gone. I pray that both were
filled with joy and family and friends. I pray, also, that the peace
that comes with Christmas remains with your family and that you are
always guided by the star.
I thank you for your many gifts to me always and, most especially, at
Christmastime. I am blessed by you and your gifts were much
enjoyed. We did some very special things with our grandchildren as a
result of your generosity. Individual thank you notes will be sent
home on Wednesday, so look for them in the depths of the backpack.
:-)
Your children came back full of enthusiam and continue to be
delightful.
Things to Remember:
If you have not returned your Report Card Envelope, please do so as
soon as possible.
We will be going on a trip to Catholic Charities and to the Food Bank
in January and March.
Service Hours for first semester(three) are now past due.
All students are to bring two cups of sliced, peeled apples on
Wednesday, January 18th. THEY MUST BE SLICED AND PEELED IN ADVANCE.
We will mix and stir and bake. We will bake apple desserts in the
classroom in conjunction with our study of the Great Depression.
Please continue to check Teacherweb for assignments and information.
Blessing to you all...Mrs. Gisler

Gracious! What a busy month!
Last week's visit to Franciscan Villa was wonderful. The students
were warm and caring and the elders loved every moment. Thank you to
all who drove(some at the last minute). You are all much appreciated.
We celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation and read at Mass. We
are filled with joy and Christmas spirit and, most certainly, with
the Holy Spirit. Your children are loving, delightful, and spirit-
filled.
These two days are full and fun. We will go from one memorable
moment to another. Tuesday the students are to bring a bag of popped
corn and a pillow and we will kick back and enjoy Polar Express
before our Christmas Party at 2:15.
Students are to bring a brown bag on Monday so that we can clean out
our lockers. Anything that won't fit into their book bag must go
into a brown bag.
I am looking forward to these days and looking forward to seeing you
and the events.
Peace...Evy Gisler

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 6TH GRADE ACADEMIC TEAM FOR THEIR WIN IN
REGIONAL COMPETITION AT MARQUETTE. THEY PLAYED WELL AND CAME HOME
WITH A FIRST PLACE PLACQUE. YEA!!! Our hosts were gracious and the

the Marquette people for their hospitality, spirit of welcome, and
kindess. Mrs. Gisler

The students' behavior last week, when the Accreditation Team was
here, was exemplary. The "Team" enjoyed and complimented
them.
Today is business as usual, but tomorrow is another story. In
Language Arts, Mrs. Duffy and I are showing a film about racism in
Mississippi in 1964 entitled "The Children Shall Lead." It
corresponds nicely with "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." We will have
a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving with our Buddies at 10:00, Harvest Stew
at 11:00 and our Book Fair Movie/Popcorn Treat at 1:00.
Today in religion we will discuss Advent and the New Roman Missal.
When we return from Thanksgiving, Advent will have begun and December
zooms by and is full of activity.
Have a blessed and joyfilled Thanksgiving. You will all be in my
prayers. Sincerely, Evy Gisler

Our first trip to Colonial Manor last Friday was a great success. The
children were wonderful with the elders and it was heart-warming to
see them acting out Catholic Social Teachings and Words of Mercy and
having fun doing it. We made crafts and cards, some students played
the piano, and we concluded with "Turkey" songs. Many thanks to the
following moms who walked with us: Mrs. Bunkers, Mrs. Crum, Mrs.
Plaisance, Mrs. Robertson, and Mrs. Snapp.
Random thoughts:
Our accreditation team will be with us the rest of this week.
Signatures are due on progress reports.
We will begin our Advent preparation next week.
District Academic Competition is November 29th at Marquette at 3:45.
On November 22nd, we will have the Annual Sixth Grade Harvest Stew.
The students provide a can of something to contribute and they have
been given a list of what they are to bring. I provide the drinks,
meat, and dessert. It cooks all morning in the crockpot and we don’t
go to the cafeteria that day. Non-perishable items are to be turned
in by Friday. Perishable items should be brought in on Tuesday.
That afternoon we will have a movie and popcorn which was our reward
for having the most parents attend the Book Fair.
Fun times! Enjoy your Thanksgiving break. May it be filled with
joy, family, and friends. I count you and your children among my
abundant blessings. God bless you. Evy Gisler

My dear parents,
I will be out on Friday for the funeral of a close family member.
Our trip to Colonial Manor is cancelled and will be rescheduled for
November. I thank the mothers who were to walk with us and hope that
they can join us on the rescheduled visit. I extend my deep
apologies to the children. They have been so excited and
enthusiastic Please pray for my family.

Dear Parents,
This will be yet another busy and short week.
Progress reports went home today and should be returned tomorow with
a parent signature. My message to the students: "This is just a
progress report. If you are pleased, keep up the good work. If you
wish to do better, you have four weeks in which to improve before
report cards. This is just a "heads-up." Remember, it is just the
first four weeks of middle school. We are coming along. :-)
I look forward to seeing you at conferences. Conferences in middle-
school are "student-led" meaning that the student participates. When
you come to conferences, please stop by the Book Fair. Classes with
100% attendance by parents get a reward. No purchase is necessary,
but there are wonderful books available for reasonable prices and all
benefits our Library-Media Center.
Things to think about:
Students were required to bring note cards recently. If your
child has not yet done so, please do it this week. They
go into a common pool for use when necessary.
We use Bibles often in our study of the Old and New Testament
and some assignments require the use of the Bible at home.
If you do not have a copy of the New American Bible: Catholic
Version, please obtain one as soon as possible. Amazon.com is
always a good resource, as are our local Catholic book stores.
Concern is expressed, often, about the weight of the book bags.
If you wish, you may purchase used books on Amazon.com very
inexpensively and keep a set at home.
Enjoy your three day weekend and let me know if you have questions.
Continue checking the "Calendar" and the "Subject Areas" at this
website.
Sincerely, Evy Gisler

Dear Parents,
Well, we have yet another great week to chalk up. The 6th Grade
student-led Mass was beautiful. I hope you are enjoying a peaceful,
relaxing and fun-filled weekend with family and friends.

I continue to send thanks for all the items that people have so
generously donated to our classroom. We have everything ranging
from baby wipes(used for hand cleaning in Mass with Buddies and
following messy science projects) to magnets and everything in
between.
Thank you all for your generosity.
Please continue to check this website for assignments, letters from
me and calendar reminders.
As many of you know, Mrs. Potter's(one of our kindergarten teachers)
infant son is critically ill. The family asks for your continued
prayers, but asks also that there be no visitors at this time. They
are restricting visitors to immediate family. Thank you for your
prayers and consideration in this matter.
Your children are delightful and enthusiastic. Thank you for sharing
them.

Dear Parents,
It was wonderful to have 100% participation on Back to School Night!
This is a great class with GREAT parents. :-) Thank you for writing
the paragraph on your child. I am enjoying them and gaining insight.
Operation Aware has switched to Monday and takes place during
religion class. This week we will also be preparing and practicing
in church for our first student led Mass. Please join us on Friday.
Contact me if you have questions.
Enjoy the upcoming long weekend.
