Monday 1-4-2010

Welcome back to school in 2010!  It is good to see everyone survived the blizzard.  We could not seem to stop talking about it but all seem to be ready to learn.

Missing assignment lists were handed out today.  Please ask your student about theirs and encourage them to bring home any work that needs to be finished.  It has to be in by Friday!  Beginning Monday 1-11, there will be 5 points deducted for late work. 

This week we will be focusing our reading on trickster tales.  Students will practice identifying the elements of the story and predicting what will happen next.  Next week we will have our classroom spelling be using spelling words we have had so far this year.  Using a point system, six participants will be selected to compete in the school bee.  All third graders are to read an award book and complete a book report during the month of January.  We will talk more about the format for the report a little later.  Please remember all students are to read 20 minutes a night and record in their planners.
