March 29.
This week we have been finishing our examination of the American Revolution--
tomorrow we will be looking at the styles of state governments that were set
up during the revolutionary war as well as the Articles of Confederation and
the first attempt to establish a Federal government. Students are reminded
that their test on the American Revolution has been delayed to Monday, April
2 to allow students more time to study and complete their chapter work.
April 18.
This week we have been looking at the Articles of Confederation and the US
Constitution and government structure--don't be surprised if you 'might' have
a snap test on this information tomorrow! A reminder that your annotated
bibliographies are due on Friday--I hope that your time in the library was
useful today!
April 25.
The class has been looking at the Washington Presidency over the last couple
of days--examining the most important men in his administration (Hamilton and
Jefferson) and then today looking at the legacy of the Washinton
Administration. Since we did not quite get through the material today,
tomorrow we will examine Washington's "Farewell Address" and then begin our
discussion of the Adams' Presidency--please look over your homework notes
tonight!
May 1.
This week we have been exmining the Adams and Jefferson presidencies--
including the importance of the Marshall Court! Today and tomorrow the class
will be working in groups to examine and prepare presentations on the
remaining Presidencies:
The Jefferson Presidency--Cameron, Justin & Max.
Madison & the War of 1812--Oscar & Mitch
Monroe & the Era of Good Feelings--Jill, Rick, & Connor
Jackson Presidency--Emerson, Beth, & Casy.
I have booked computed lab time for each of the next two days to assist
students in the preparation of this work.
May 14.
Last week we completed our presentations and discussions of the first
presidencies. I will be providing a couple of powerpoint presentations this
week on the antebellum period--looking at the rise of different political
movements in the US during this period in time as well as the first
expansionist movements in fulfillment of the Monroe Doctrine. On Friday,
students submitted their essay outlines--I will be trying to meet with
students towards the end of the week (while the class is working on their
Civil War worksheets) to discuss their outlines and provide assistance. The
unit test on this material will be next week--we'll discuss the date in
class.
May 23.
Today the class wrote their test on the first American presidencies--I should
have it marked and returned by the end of the week. This week we finished off
our discussion of the American Antebellum Reform Movements & the US expansion
westward during this period in time.
Tomorrow will be a work period for students to complete ONE of the following
activities:
1. Complete their CIVIL WAR package of materials, that are due on Friday May
25!
2. Read Chapters #13 & 14 and complete the following questions:
Pg. 341 # 2-4; Pg. 349 # 3&4; Pg. 353 #1-4; & Pg. 358 #3-4.
This work will take them through the actual Civil War itself, as well as
prepare the students for my upcoming PPT on Post-Civil War Reconstruction.
Next week, following our discussion on the reasons for the Civil War, we will
be watching a video on the Civil War that captures the terrors and horrors of
the war.
3. Continue working on their major research essays--as a reminder, the peer
editing period for the rough drafts of the essays is RAPIDLY APPROACHING, on
Friday June 1, while the good copies of their essays are due on MONDAY JUNE 4!
Please come prepared to use your time wisely tomorrow!
