Valentine’s is Almost Here!

On Tuesday next week (February 14th) we will be having a Valentine
celebration in our classroom in the afternoon. Parents are invited to send in
treats for our party and I will supply juice beverages. We will have some
Valentine activities and get down with some Valentine dance contests! If you
are planning on handing out Valentines to the class, in order that everyone
is included, I have attached a class list to ensure nobody is left out.

Swimming Electives

Eight of our class members have been enjoying the swimming elective at the
Forbert Pool on Wednesdays over the past three weeks. This will continue for
the next three weeks.
Jimmy Chapman Break Dancing
Jimmy Chapman will be here to teach the kids some awesome dance move and get
them movin’ and groovin’. Our sessions with Jimmy will be March 6, 8, 22 and
29.

REPORT CARDS!

Don’t forget to look in your child’s agenda’s on Friday of next week for the
first term Report Card. Please fill out the last page and return it signed as
soon as possible.

B.P.S. Winter Olympics!

On Friday, February 17, our student council has planned a Winter Olympic day.
Parents are reminded that we will be outside for a large portion of the day
so please have your child dressed for the weather.

What’s Going On in the Classroom?

In Literacy, I have been reading aloud the classic, Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, to the class. Please feel free to ask your child what happened in
the book each night in order for them to show their understanding of what
they are listening to. We are doing activities that go along with the novel,
as well. We have been putting together our books that we have learned about
through our Author in Residence, Ted Staunton. He returns next week and we
will have our cover pages and writing done for him, ready to go on to the
next level in the writing process.

In Math, we have been looking at Measurement. Students have learned that we
measure distances in millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres. We have
also learned to calculate the perimeter of objects by adding up all the side
lengths. To practice this at home, you can draw shapes and identify side
lengths and have your child find the sum of the side lengths.
