Please be aware that students are expected to complete most, if not all, of their hands-on projects at
school. Too many students are rushing through their projects at home. This is problematic for two
reasons. One they have nothing to do during the alloted class time and two, it provides no opportunity
for Ms Johnston or Mrs Jackson to offer suggestions on how they might improve their work. That on-
going dialogue with their teachers and peers is essential for artistic growth. Students may do their
sketchbook research and thumbnails at home and once the project is well underway they can ask for
permission to take their project home to work on it in stages. Students MUST check in with their
teachers before taking their work home and the amount of work to be completed MUST be negotiated.
We know that you are probably pretty excited by your child's artistic efforts, as our we. But please keep
in mind that we need all that amazing art work for our "Arts In Bloom" / Showcase exhibition. The flat
art will be staying at school in your child's portfolio until the exhibition. Three dimensional work may
have to go home because of storage limitations but we would welcome it back the week before the
exhibit. So please don't give it away yet!
Right now, students are working on Van Gogh's Starry Night with their own creative interpretation for
the foreground. You can help your child by encouraging them to keep their sketchbook work up-to-
date.
