Mr. D. Swindall attended Brock University from 1992 until 1996 where he
received his BPhed with Honours with a minor in History. He later attended
teachers' college in 1999/2000 at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay where he
received his B. Ed with Distinction. He is also a certified NCCP Level I and
II basketball and Level I rugby coach, personal trainer and has his Honours
Specialist Qualification in Phed. He is now entering his 9th year of
teaching and his 8th year here at Cawthra Park after a brief stint at
John Fraser Secondary School. Mr. Swindall also taught for one year in
Pusan, South Korea where he worked as an ESL instructor (english as a second
language). Mr. Swindall's athletic background includes having played hockey
and soccer as a youngster and then moving on to competitive basketball and
football in high school. He played for the Brock Badgers rugby team while
doing his undergraduate studies at Brock University and despite the fact that
he is well past his prime and against his better judgement ... still plays
rugby for the Oakville Crusaders' rugby club at the Ontario 2nd and 3rd
Division club level. Mr. Swindall has also participated in competitive
mountain bike racing on the Ontario circuit and trained in the martial art of
taekwondo while living and teaching in South Korea and while he attended
teachers' college. Mr. S is also an avid fan of outdoor recreational pursuits
such as paddling and rock climbing. He has completed his Level I canoe
flatwater/whitewater and tripping certificates as well as his Level I rock
climbing (Top rope) certificate. Aside from playing his beloved rugby in the
summer, Mr. S also competes in the sport of dragonboat racing (for the
Flying Shanghai Noodles). He has also trained in the sweet science of boxing
and still plays recreational basketball in a men's league in Toronto in the
winter. Mr. Swindall teaches both in the Phed department (Gd. 9-12 Phed) as
well as in the Social Science department (Gd. 10 History/Gd. 10 Civics). He
is currently involved in coaching the Senior Girls Basketball team (fall),
Senior Boys Basketball team (winter) and the Sr. Boys Rugby team (spring).
TRIBUTE TO MR. JONES:
* After over 30 years of teaching and coaching at both the High School,
Provincial, National and Olympic level (Canoeing - Los Angeles,U.S.A -
1984/Seoul,Korea - 1988)), Mr. Jones has retired from teaching and has moved
on to the next stage of his life which will more than likely involve supply-
teaching and most importantly spending time with his wife Sandy and his two
children, Kyle and Shannon.
I (Mr. Swindall) would like to extend a congratulations to "Jonesy" for a job
well done but most of all for being a great colleague, mentor and friend
during the first six years of my teaching career. I will never forget what
you have done for me and the impact you have had on my life and career. You
are the best .... and will be dearly missed here in the Cawthra Park Boys
Phed Department.
