Inschool Dates and Important Events

CO OPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM
SEMESTER  II 2008 

The student will phone prior to February 20th  to arrange the arrival time 
that day and to discuss the length of stay that day.  If this date is 
inconvenient, please arrange an alternative day to sign the WEA. Attached is 
a guideline of orientation activities you may wish to review with your co op 
student.

WEDNESDAY,  FEBRUARY 20th , 2008.    ORIENTATION DAY

Orientation Day, is a day set aside for the student to have the (WEA)Work 
Education Agreement signed at the placement and for orientation to the 
placement.  This form releases you of any Workplace Compensation 
responsibility; the student is covered by the Ministry of Education. This 
agreement must be signed by all parties and filed with the school and Board  
prior to starting the co op placement.  The hours shown on the form should 
cover all possible working arrangements.  The student will generally work 7 
hours a day.  

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25th, 2008.      FIRST DAY OF WORK

The first full day for the co operative education program for students to be 
at their placements. The student will arrive with a folder containing a log 
sheet for each week.  The student will fill out the sheet daily with their 
hours and skills.  Someone at the placement (student supervisor) will sign 
the form, weekly.  Every 2 weeks, the student will return the logs to the 
school for verification of their hours and skills at the placement. The 
folder will also contain 3 Performance Appraisal Forms. Dates for students to 
return to classes for their school course work are included on page two.

In the unlikely event of an accident on site, there is a pink Workman’s 
Compensation Form that should accompany the student to the doctor’s office or 
hospital.

Last day at co-operative education placement.

EMPLOYER AND STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
It is understood that a student will inform the employer and the school if 
they are absent/late from their placement.  Attendance expectations should be 
similar to employees at the placement.  Legitimate illnesses and unavoidable 
appointments should be accommodated.  However, please ensure that the school 
is notified of unexplained or excessive lates or absences.

HOURS AND SCHEDULE

Each placement will determine the hours for their co op student.  Generally, 
the student should work Monday to Friday one week; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 
Friday the next week. Every other Wednesday the student is at school. The 
working hours will vary, but expectations are 7 hours a day, 35 hours a long 
week, and 28 hours a short week. Changes in work days and hours are flexible 
and negotiable. (ie. Shifts / longer hours / weekends. All hours must be 
noted on the Work Education Agreement)

June 9th –13th   	Students in school. Students remain in school to 
prepare and 				present their portfolios and work 
exit plans.
