Where does the parent council meet?

All meetings are held at the Library resource centre. Please see Calendar 
2007-2008 for details.

Should I take my son/daughter to the Parent/Teacher interviews?

Ms. Michalak recommends that you take your son/daughter with you so they can 
participate in the conversation with the teacher and discuss any issues and 
recommendations made by the teacher.

Does my son/daughter need a scientific calculator for math?

Cawthra Math Department strongly encourages students to purchase a
TI-83 plus or silver edition graphing calculator.  It must be this model as
all of the textbooks have instructions for the investigations based on this
model.  The prices range anywhere from $100-$150 depending on where they
are purchased.  Students are certainly free to use other models, but
they then have to rely on their own instruction manual.  We have class
sets for the Grade 9's and 10's, but if the student needs to use one for 
homework or is planning to pursue math into grade 12, they will definately 
need their own calculator.

What are the registration costs?

Photo Packages:
Bring a separate cheque payable to Jostens.  Packages range from $30.00-
$48.00.  A flyer was distributed in June describing the packages.  All 
students must have a photo taken at registration for their student card this 
is free of charge.

Fees:
As cancelled cheques may act as receipts for specific items, we suggest that 
you bring a cheques for the items listed below.  No receipts will be issued 
for cash or cheques.  For registration, you will need a cheque made payable 
to "Cawthra Park Secondary School."  Please bring it with you when you 
register.
- Activity Fee - $30.00
- RAP Program Upgrade - $100.00  (Grade 9 new students have already 
submitted this with their confirmation.)
- Yearbooks (optional) - $40.00

Is there a uniform required for Physical Education courses?

Grade 9 students will need to purchase the Cawthra Park Phys-ed uniform. If 
you have a sibling who has already attended the school the student can wear 
their uniform.

What are the fees for School Teams?

The Athletic Fee for the first team is $30. For each additional team there 
is a $5.00 fee. This money helps pay for transportation, uniforms, referee 
fees, tournament entry fees etc.

What shoes are required for phys-ed?

Grade 9 students should have proper running shoes for their phys-ed class. 
This will help prevent injuries such as shin splints.

How are closures due to bad weather announced?

Closures due to snow and ice are posted on the the Peel School Board website 
at www.peelschools.org by 7:00 a.m.  You may also listen to the following 
radio stations: CHIN, CHUM, CJCL, 680 News, CHFI, CBC, CIAO, CFNY, CFRB,

What do the school closure messages mean?

Buses are cancelled. This means the schools remain open for students - but 
transportation services provided by the Peel District School Board are 
cancelled for the areas(s) affected.

The schools are closed. This message means that, due to bad weather 
conditions, schools are closed to students.

All schools and Peel Board facilities are closed. This message means that, 
due to bad weather conditions, schools and board offices are closed to 
students and staff.

What are the graduation requirements?

30 credits: 18 compulsory and 12 of your own choosing
A pass on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (Grade 10)
40 hours of community involvement activities

The 18 complusory credits:
4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
1 credit in French as a second language
3 credits in Math (at least 1 credit in grade 11 or 12)
2 credits in Science 
1 credit in Canadian Geography
1 credit in Canadian History
1/2 credit in Civics
1 credit in Health/Physical Education
1 credit in Arts (music, art, drama or dance)
1/2 credit in Career Studies
plus:
1 more credit in English or a third language or a social science or Canadian 
and World Studies
1 more credit in Health/Physical Education or Business Studies or the Arts 
(music, art, drama or dance)
1 more credit in Science (grade 11 or 12)or Technological Education (grade 9 
through 12)

Your 12 other credits can by chosen by you.
