Welcome
Collins Bay P.S.
School Mission Statement
Our school exists to nurture the growth of the fine young people of our community. It is our mission to work cooperatively with parents in developing a student who is:
A) academically proficient to individual potential and prepared for future challenges;
B) a young person who will become a contributing humane, responsible citizen.
To that end, we are committed to assuring that our school:
• is a community school -- a centre for gatherings and activities and community events -- an educational institution that involves community people as resources for its programs --an inviting and friendly place to visit;
• will strive to provide for each of its students, a warm, caring, stimulating and disciplined environment --- a place where children feel a positive concept of self and have the opportunity to be creative;
• recognizes and programs for individual differences -- in rate and style of learning, in behaviour, in social needs, in aspirations, in environmental caring and values. We will continue to look at the individual child whose need for acceptance and sense of worth is one of the most basic human needs.
TO THESE AIMS, THE STAFF OF COLLINS BAY SCHOOL
WILL REMAIN DEDICATED

As your Principal I am looking forward to serving you again this year. I am excited about our start up and I look forward to working with you to make this a successful school year for our children. I am very proud to tell people what a great school Collins Bay P.S. really is - students, parents, and staff are second to none! If you are new to Collins Bay school and we have not yet met, please stop by the office for a visit.
On behalf of the school staff, I wish to extend a welcome to our new and returning students. Staff is fully prepared to provide excellent learning opportunities for all of our students. Welcome to new staff at Collins Bay, especially, Mrs. Strickland, Mrs. Secker, Mr. Hanlon, Mrs. Beamish, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Instant and Mr. Higgs. We remind our students for the need to live the three R’s each day. Being reasonable, responsible, and respectful will ensure a successful and enjoyable year.
Parent volunteers strengthen our school and are vital to student success. All parents are invited to view, complete and return the attached volunteer form and see how they might volunteer their time to assist the staff in providing continued quality education for all students at Collins Bay P.S.
Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher if they have any questions or concerns about their child.

Emergency Procedures and Drills
In order to respond to emergency situations in a safe and orderly fashion, we practice drills to ensure all staff and students understand what to do in these situations. As a result, we have already had a few fire drills to practice evacuating the school calmly and safely. We also have a procedure to follow in a school lockdown in the case of an unwelcome visitor on the premises. This drill involves students being out of sight to anyone in the hall with the classroom doors locked. Periodically, we will also practice this procedure to prepare our students for such an occurrence. We hope that these situations never occur, but feel confidant that if they do, we all will know what to do.
