- Tuesday is the last day for checking out library books. Please make sure ALL the outstanding books are returned. Thanks from Mrs. Jones.
- We have started a golf unit in gym and I have planned a fun round of golf at Cider House Golf Course on Monday, June 11. This will be our third and final field trip of the year. It is a beginner, 9 hole, par 3 course that is a great introductory experience for beginner golfers. Students will be paired in two groups of four and Mrs. Dempsey and myself will be working with both groups to help them along the course. It's going to be a great end to our golf unit, and a fun (first time for many) experience for our class. Please visit ciderhousegolf.ca for more details.
- Parents... We are going to have a re-test on Wednesday for the grade 6 Measurement test. Marks were significantly lower than past tests and I'm not satisfied with the results. I believe the students can do much better! If you have any questions, please let me know. Today we took up the test and I assigned a practice sheet on surface area. We'll take it up tomorrow and we'll review volume and then take it up later in the day. Please review the unit review in the MMS textbook. Thanks for the at-home help!
- We have also started Poetry in Literacy. FUN!!
- DCA is having a special event called, "A Taste of DCA" where students can bring a friend to school on Friday, June 8th. The date coincides with either a Clarington or Durham PA day (we couldn't swing both!) assuring that they friends won't miss their own school. Encourage your student to begin thinking of one or two friends they can invite. It's a great idea to get students here to experience DCA. A neighbour, a friend from youth group, or even a family member... just get them here!
- Pictures were due on Friday and all came in. Great Job. As a bonus, I was able to arrange a class photo with the photographer. All 8 of us crammed inside the backdrop and after 8 photos, she got one that worked. Each student was given one photo and I hope they all made it home. It's a great keepsake from this special year.
- We are starting our last science unit this week. It's on Energy and students will learn the different types of energy and ways to conserve it. The assessments, data, my teacher observations, and some of the classwork will be given to two professors from Tyndale Univ. and UOIT. It will use reviewed as part of a pre-planning study for the Ministry of Education. What a privilege for our small school to be apart of this wide study. It will be a four week unit.
Finally... I don't usually use this TeacherWeb platform to offer my personal opinions. It's been something used only for classroom related information. But I would like to take the liberty and encourage you to reflect on the importance of our school. I love DCA and want this school to continue for many more years. This season in our school history is an important one. It's one that we can't be passive in; we need to take ownership of this vital mission. We have a school with a unique ability to change students' lives because our brand honours God. Do your part and share this place of education with your circle of friends. Encourage them to visit for a morning and let their children see how different and wonderful we are. It only takes a student sitting in our classroom for a few periods to see how marvelous this place is. Oh, and spark their curiousity with Wednesday evening's open house. Thanks for listening.
