Why should I use this website?

Students should use this website to check homework daily, to
catch up on things they've missed due to absence, to get
reminders on items related to French, and to stay on top of
things so that they can do well in French class.
Parents should use this website to stay informed on what is
happening in class, what homework students should be doing and
when tests are given and handed back.

How often should I check this website?

Ideally, the site should be checked daily by students and at
least once a week by parents.

Where is the French office located?

I am happy to report that the French office is now located inside
the school on the first floor beside the pop machine. But you can
usually find me in my classroom which is Room 107.

What are the links?

Occasionally, I will provide links on the French Links page for
students to expand their knowledge and to have some fun. This is
a good way for students to review and learn a few more things.

What kind of dictionary should I have?

LaRousse and Harper Collins Robert are good choices. Please do
not buy a Webster's dictionary or a dictionary from the Dollar
Store. These dictionaries will not be sufficient to complete the
work.

Can I use a translation website to help me with assignments?

Absolutely not! Use of any kind of site that translates English
to French is not permitted. It is considered cheating as it is
not your work. These sites are also not very good and do not
provide the proper words half the time. If a student hands in an
assignment having used one of these websites to complete it, the
student will recieve a zero on the assignment and the principal
will be asked to get involved. This is a very serious matter.

Can I get my French speaking relative to help me?

Of course you can, but only on daily work. Ask them questions
and get them to help you if you don't understand something. But
when it comes to major assignments, I want you to do those on your
own. I want to know what YOU know how to do, not your relative.
So if I realize that the work is not yours, you may recieve a
zero or be asked to start from scratch.

When can I see you, Mme Viggiani, for help?

If you need help, the best thing to do is let me know and we can
figure out a good time time meet. Lunch, recess, and after school
are good for me, but sometimes I have other committments. Always
make sure you discuss time with me so that you are not left hanging.

Why is French important?

Learning to speak any language in addition to what you already
speak is beneficial to you in the future. Many jobs require
speaking more than one language and in Canada, French is one of
the main languages needed. Knowing how to speak French could
make the difference in getting the job you really want over
someone else who has the same qualifications, but does not speak
French. But I'm sure many of you can't picture a future that
seems so far away, so let me put it in different terms. Each
year of French is very important because what you learn in one
year is the basis of the following year all the way up all the
grades. So if you choose not to do well one year in French by
not doing your work and not studying for tests, then you will
have a very difficult time each year after that. You can't build
a building if it's missing a few important blocks from the
bottom. And when it comes to graduating from High School, you
need to have at least one grade 9 credit in French or you do not
graduate. And graduating, to me, is a really important thing.
So work hard.

What happens if I lose the grammar note Mme Viggiani gave out in class?

You only get one copy. If you need another copy because you lost
or damaged the one I gave you, you can download it from the
website from the "Grammar Notes" page (if I have uploaded it) or
you can make a copy from a friend.
