Applications are now available for the Jack & Janet Cavers Scholarship.  The major criteria for this award is financial need followed by academic standing.  Please visit the Guidance Office to pick up an application.

The Bill 7 Award is a registered charitable trust that awards scholarships to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer and 2-spirited students, resident in Ontario who plan to pursue a post-secondary education and can demonstrate financial need .  For more information, please visit their website atwww.bill7award.caor check out the flyer in the Financial Aid cabinet in the Guidance Office.

Are you planning to graduate this June? If so, please plan on attending our Spring Grad Breakfast & Assembly to be held onWednesday, May 16 beginning at 7:15AM in the Cafeteria. The main purpose of this event will be to provide you with important information relating to next month’s graduation ceremony. A special note for NOTL students...there will be a special bus provided to get you here on time. Pickup will be at 6:45AM at the Donut Diner in Virgil.

Voting will take place at the Spring Grad Breakfast & Assembly for the Valedictorian for the Class  of 2012. Criteria and a copy of each nominee’s profile is now posted in the display case in the cafeteria foyer for you to check out in advance of the vote. More information on voting procedures will be provided at the assembly.

Attention all students!!! The deadline for changing your course requests for next year is May 17. No changes will be considered from that date until after school resumes in September. The only exception will be students with timetable conflicts. If you still wish to make a course change, please make an appointment to see a Guidance Counsellor as soon as possible.

The Student Support Leadership Initiative is a community partnership mandated to improve the understanding of and services for youth with mental health and substance abuse concerns. They are looking for student volunteers to participate in their upcoming focus groups on May 9 & 10 in St. Catharines. For more information, please consult the flyer in the Community Involvement Opportunities binder in the Guidance Office.

Attention all students, especially those in Grade 12!!! The deadline for dropping a Grade 11 or 12 course for this semester without a record of the mark on your transcript is Wednesday, April 25.  Please keep in mind that students who have earned less than 24 credits must maintain a full timetable. If you would like to discuss a course drop with a Guidance Counsellor, please request an appointment as soon as possible.

FEB. 21/12 - COURSE SELECTION COUNSELLING BEGINS FEBRUARY 29

This is a reminder to all students to check the course selection counselling schedule that will be posted throughout the school by the end of the week. Students with surnames beginning with the letters A through L should report promptly at the designated time after reporting to their MSIP class for attendance purposes. Students with surnames beginning with letters M through Z should report 20 minutes later. 
Please note that there will be no guidance appointments available until after the course selection process has been completed. Should you require the services of a Counsellor, please visit the Guidance Office after school.

FEB. 19/12 - 2012/13 COURSE SELECTION PROCESS NOW UNDERWAY

Students who have not yet picked up their course selection materials should do so at the
Guidance Office as soon as possible.  A computer lab has been reserved during each period on selected days so that students, who do not have access to a computer at home or simply require assistance with the course selection process, may complete their selections at a scheduled time during their MSIP class under Guidance supervision.  The schedule will be provided to MSIP teachers.  Course Request Sign-Off Sheets are due by to be returned to your MSIP teacher by Friday, February 24.

FEB. 3/12 - TIMETABLE CHANGE DEADLINE
 

In order to facilitate the finalization of class lists, the deadline for any further timetable changes is Friday, February 10. After that point, only course drops, with parental permission where required, will be considered. If you still wish to make a timetable change,please make a guidance appointment as soon as possible.

JAN. 27/12 - IMPORTANT TIMETABLE CHANGE INFORMATION

Some of you may have some issues with your timetable, whether it be a missing class or your courses may not be suitable for you. If this applies to you, please carefully read the “Timetable Changes” poster which should be posted in all classrooms as well as various locations on the first floor.

JAN. 16/12 - EXAM PERIOD INFORMATION

Guidance counsellors will be available after each day’s exams on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to change your Semester 2 timetable, it would be in your best interests to deal with it as soon as possible. You are also reminded that the deadline for Semester 2 Night School applications is fast approaching.

JAN. 10/12 - SEMESTER 2 TIMETABLES

Semester 2 timetables will be distributed in Period 1 classes on Wednesday, January 11.  If you are considering making changes to your Semester 2 timetable, you can avoid the rush by making an appointment to see a Guidance Counsellor as soon as possible to discuss it.Please consult the master timetable posted on the Guidance bulletin board to see what courses are being offered in each period.

JAN. 9/12 - W. GARFIELD WESTON AWARDS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Attention college-bound students!!! The W. Applications for the Branscombe Family Foundation Scholarship are now available in the Guidance Office. The criteria for this scholarship include high academic achievement, significant financial need, and exemplary community involvement. Applications are due by May 1.

NOV. 17/11 - ONTARIO COLLEGE APPLICATION BOOKLETS AVAILABLE

Are you applying to an Ontario college for next September? If that's the case, please drop by the Guidance Office before or after school to pick up your labelled instruction booklet containing your Ontario Education Number. The OEN is required in order to complete your on-line application.

Are you applying to an Ontario university for next September? If so, please drop by the Guidance Office before or after school to pick up your PIN letter. This will give you access to the on-line application.

NOV. 14/11 - COURSE DROP DEADLINE

Attention all students, especially those in Grade 12!!! The deadline for dropping a Grade 11 or 12 course for this semester without a record of the mark on your transcript is Wednesday, November 23. Please keep in mind that students who have earned less than 24 credits must maintain a full timetable. If you would like to discuss a course drop with a Guidance Counsellor, please request an appointment as soon as possible.

NOV. 10/11 - TOYOTA EARTH DAY SCHOLARSHIP

SEP. 16/11 - DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER TUTOR?

Attention senior students!!!  Do you have expertise in a particular subject area like English, Math, or Science?  If so, you may be able to help some of our junior students by volunteering to be a tutor.  If you are interested, please complete and submit a “Volunteer Tutor Information Form”, which can be found in the “Tutor Information” binder in the Guidance office.

SEP. 16/11 - INTERESTED IN A STUDENT EXCHANGE?

SEP. 12/11 - 2010/11 HONOUR ROLL POSTED
 
An Honour Award is presented to a student who earns an overall average of at least 80% over an entire school year. A draft list of those students who earned an Honour Award during the last school year is posted just outside the Main Office. If your name is not on the list and you feel that it should be, please visit the Guidance Office and speak with a Counsellor before or after school as soon as possible.

SEP. 8/11 - S.A.T. AND A.C.T. REGISTRATION INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE

Are you in Grade 12 and considering attending a college or university in the United States after you graduate?  If so, you will probably need to write one of the two major aptitude tests--the S.A.T. more formally known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the A.C.T also known as the American College Test.  Registration information is now available in the Guidance Office.

SEP. 8/11 - PRELIMINARY S.A.T. REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Are you in Grade 11 and considering attending a university or college in the United States after you graduate?  If so, please consider writing the P.S.A.T., also known as the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test.  The registration deadline is October 1 and for more information, please see Mr. De Luca in the Guidance Office.

SEP. 8/11 - SEMESTER 1 TIMETABLE CHANGE DEADLINE


In order to facilitate the finalization of class lists, the deadline for any further timetable changes is Friday, September 16.  After that point, only course drops, with parental permission where required, will be considered.  If you still wish to make a timetable change,
please make a guidance appointment as soon as possible.

Applications for the DSBN Night School are now available in the Guidance Office after school or by appointment.   A list of all courses being offered is posted on the Guidance bulletin board.  Applications must be submitted  by Friday, September 16.
