MusicAs a former songwriter and Music Together Teacher http://www.musictogether.com I have sought to incorporate music into all areas of my teaching. The Music Together Program is founded on the following principals: I. All children are musical. II. All children can achieve basic music competence, which is defined as the ability to sing in tune and move with accurate rhythm. III. Modelling and participation are essential to a child's musical growth. IV. This growth is best achieved in a playful, developmentally appropriate, non-performance-oriented learning environment that is musically rich yet immediately accessible to the child's-and the adult's!-participation. In our classroom, music is it the thread used to tie together all of our daily activities. Music leads our transitions, and is used to give my students a kinesthetic approach to internalize complex concepts in Mathematics, Literacy, and Science. As children learn through experiences, I provide my students with many opportunities to participate in various musical experiences and to develop their own musical skills and confidence. This includes providing them with the opportunity to learn a vast repertoire of musical pieces, to experiment with creative movement, playing instruments and creating musical pieces on their own.
