Goal of Assignment

1. This assignment will allow the student to practice:

· Making generalizations (or a thesis) about your topic

· Stating the historical significance of an event

· Footnoting the source of information

· Completing a works cited page

Library time:

· You will be given two periods of library time to complete the research.

General Instructions:

1. Assignment may be done individually or in groups of two.

2. Each topic has a worksheet that needs to be completed. The worksheet is located on Teacherweb.com site. One work sheet per topic will be handed in.

3. Each topic will involve a 10-minute presentation. An audio-visual component is necessary.

4. Rubrics are also located on Teacherweb.com site.

5. All facts that are not common knowledge need to be footnoted. You need to use the MLA format in Shaping Your Thoughts. Make sure you use the short cut for subsequent references. If you are not sure how to do this make sure you see the teacher or the librarian.

6. When completing the worksheets make sure you provide enough information so that the fact is understandable. Cryptic facts without some detail and context make it hard to come up with a generalization about your topic.

7. When completing the historical significance section of your worksheet ask yourself-why is this topic significant? How did it affect other historical events? What would the history of your civilization be like without your topic?
