Mrs. Hicks, formally Miss Anstett, is herself a graduate of Sacred Heart High
School. She started in this building with her grade 5 class and is currently
teaching in what was her grade 6 classroom. Her husband Mr. B. Hicks, also
teaches math at Sacred Heart.
While a student at Sacred Heart, she was a Yearbook Editor, a Student Council
Class Representative, President of the Photography Club, School Newspaper
Editor and earned a School Letter. Upon graduation in 1979 she received a
John Korman scholarship as well as the Student of the Year Award (Now called
the Staff Shield)
Mrs. Hicks attended the University of Waterloo and has a Mathematics Degree.
She specialized in Combinatorics and Optimization. She was also completed the
Cooperative Education Program in Mathematics and Computer Science. This
program included teacher's college at Althouse at the University of Western
Ontario.
Her work terms took her to Ottawa and Toronto.
Upon graduation in 1984, she accepted a teaching job at Sacred Heart and has
been there ever since. She is currently the Chairperson for the Mathematics
Department at Sacred Heart.
Mrs. Hicks is a member of the Health & Safety Committee as the Teacher
Representative.
She has participated in marking for EQAO twice. She worked as an Editor for a
team project writing curriculum for elearning. She also wrote curriculm for
the High Skills Specialist Project. Currently Mrs. Hicks is a member of the
Math Gains Committee for our Board. She is also an online tutor for Math
Help. She is on the School Improvement Planning Committee.
Mrs. Hicks is a Yearbook Advisor. She coordinated the
Intramural Reach Games and coached the school team for 25 years. She
also coached the Cheerleading team. She also was an advisor for Student
Council for many years.
She has also has served on many committees outside of school such as Walkerton
Minor Soccer--Chairperson, Walkerton Illusions Baton Corps--Treasurer &
Administrative Assistant, Walkerton CWL--Treasurer & President, and Hanover
Sight & Sounds--Battle of the Bands Coordinator. She was the
Regional Reach Coordinator.
Mrs. Hicks has three children. All of them Brent, Aaron and Courtney are
graduates of Sacred Heart High School. Brent has graduated from the
University of Waterloo in the Honours Kinesiology Co-op Program. Brent
married Kimberly in 2009. He has completed teacher's college and is looking
for a job as a high school science teacher. Aaron has graduated with a math
degree from the University of Guelph and is pursuing Accounting at Humber
College in Toronto. Courtney is studying Business at Wilfrid Laurier.
