How can I request a parent-teacher meeting?

discuss something over the phone or in person and I will call you to set up a time for us to talk.

Why can't I send nut products to school with my child?

We have a student in our class who may react to tree nuts, ground nuts and coconuts.
The safety and well-being of our students is our primary concern. Thanks for your understanding!

How can I order pizza for my child?

Pizza is sold on Fridays (Wednesdays in the case of a week with no school on Friday).
The cost is $1.50 per slice and the order is placed the day your child will receive the pizza.
If you would like to pre-pay for pizza, that is fine too.

St. Raphael School also sells milk (delivered daily) and Subway sandwiches (once per week).
These orders must be placed for an entire month at a time.
Order forms will be sent home in your child's communication book.

Can I volunteer in the Early Primary Life Skills class?

There are lots of opportunities for parents to get involved. Any adult working with children at
St. Raphael school is asked to provide a criminal background check. If you would like to share your
gifts on a regular basis or accompany our class on field trips, please let me know!

What is the procedure for picking my child up at school?

If you are picking your child up after school, please give advance notice in your child's
communication book. You can pull up to the door at the bottom of the hill (as soon as you enter
the school driveway) at 3:10 and an adult will bring your child to the door.
If you are picking your child up earlier, please give advance notice in the communication book and
press the buzzer at the main door of the school. The secretary will let you in and notify us so we
can bring your child to the office to meet you.

How can medication be administered to my child at school?

Should your child require medication to be administered at school (even if it is only on a temporary
basis), you must fill out an Administration of Medication form and bring the medication to the main
office at St. Raphael School. An adult will follow our protocol for storage and administration of
medication and notify you when a refill is required.

What will my child learn in the Life Skills program?

Your child will acquire the skills and knowledge they need to live and work as independently as possible.
You will be invited to participate in developing a learning plan in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy,
Religion, The Arts, Physical Education and Personal Life Management (which includes activities of
daily living, social skills and self-control skills). Programming will be personalized based on your
child's current level of achievement and developmental stage. All students in the Life Skills program
will live an integrated experience within the larger school and opportunities for integration into a
regular classroom may be considered as appropriate. Any goals set by your child's Occupational
Therapist, Physiotherapist and/or Speech-Language Pathologist will be incorporated into their
classroom programming. You are always welcome to give feedback and help revise your child's
program as they learn and grow.
