What's New?

Below is a summary of recent updates to the www.teacherweb.com/on/statistics/math/ site.

October 3rd
- a few links were updated and the associated text edited on the Links page
- french versions of the Fathom instructions for E-STAT modelling lessons were added to the E-STAT and Function Modelling page.
- the Census at School page was edited at the top to direct users to the www.censusatschool.ca page

September 19, 2011
- deleted several large files so as to remain under the 100MB limit for the site

May 1, 2011
- added a marquee about the Data Analaysis Fair to be held at Statisitics Canada on Wednesday June 1, 2011. We have a table where students can talk to statisticians about jobs in statistics and at Statistics Canada. :-)
- an email was sent to the site user list about this data fair

September 11th. 2009
- Themes to investigate social justice in mathematics. See new link from the page entitled "Health Microdata Supports, Social Justice Math, Health Resources and Mathematics Curriculum Links"

- added an updated file listing StatCan resources that support the WNCP math outcomes for grades 5 to 9.

- added  a new PPT  on Why take the MDM4U Course? - a student perspective developed by students at Mother Teresa High School to the  'MDM4U Project Supports and Exemplars' folder
May 14, 2009
- added 2 new projects from Mother Teresa High School's Data Fair to the 'MDM4U Project Supports
and Exemplars' folder
- added links to new narrated video clips by Cynthia Rutledge on how to use StatCan web
resources to the 'MDM4U Project Supports
and Exemplars' folder
- updated several of the CCHS teacher supports in the 'Health microdata supports' folder and
added a new step-by-step instructional guide for investigating the prevalence of diabetes
developed by Cynthia Rutledge.
- removed the HBSC microdata, as this will shortly be available on www.statcan.gc.ca

January 27, 2009

the "CCHS Microdata Workshops" galley of photos.

- Joel Yan is retiring this week and Yves Saint-Pierre is replacing him. Contact Yves at

- the E-STAT primer was updated to reflect changes in our website.

Nov. 9, 2008
- add a detailed PowerPoint presentation explaining & illustrating the new Canada Year Book
Historical Collection resource containing 92 books and over 180,000 pages of information. See
History Education resources in the Workshops folder.

Oct. 30, 2008
- added a new treasure hunt for science teachers and science education classes in the Workshops
folder.

Oct. 23, 1008
- added a new Recycling in Canada activity for grades 9-10 in the Census at School folder.

October 7, 2008
- improved the organization of the CCHS Health microdata suppport files in the Health Microdata
supports folder
- listed Betty Temmer, bettytemmer@kwic.com as a source for training in use of the CCHS and
added her to the list of developers for the website

October 2, 2008
- added new grade-specific TinkerPlots activities for analyzing your Census at School class data
for grades 4-5, 6 and 7-9, courtesy of Angela McCanny. See the Census at School folder.
- updated the resources for health and physical education for grades 7-12 in the Health folder.

September 22, 2008
- updated the Geography Education and Community Profile workshops on the 'Workshops and
Postsecondary' folder
- for Health Microdata supports folder, updated the top message and added a new PowerPoint
developed by Betty Temmer developed for use in training for the CCHS microdata cycle 3.1 with
Beyond 20/20 software.

August, 2008
- posted a new lesson which applies mathematical functions in a piecewise fashion to model the
federal debt of Canada since 1867 in the E-STAT and Function Modelling folder.
