I hope you all had as much fun as a great summer! I had many great
experiences, including driving from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean;
exploring Gettysburg National Park and Washington D.C.; seeing wild horses on
Assateague Island; visiting family in Cincinnati, Ohio; catching up with old
friends and meeting new friends all over the country. The most exciting part
of my summer was a ten day canoe trip on Lake Superior in a thirty-five foot
voyageur canoe with fourteen other people...it was a fantastic experience.
The reason that I like teaching so much is because of you. My students give
me energy, make me laugh and challenge me. Sometimes it is quite a juggling
act to maintain calm in a classroom with 28 people and try to learn
something, too, but it keeps me on my toes. That is another thing I like
about teaching - there is never a dull moment!
Here’s a little about me: I like to do almost anything out-of-doors:
hiking, canoeing, skiing or just sitting by a river to read a book. I love
my pets, which include two cats, Magregor and Murphy and a six year old
golden retriever named Jasper who is a great hiking companion and loves to
play with Murphy, the cat. I am an avid reader and like to spend time with
my friends. My family all lives out east, but I keep in touch as best I can.
As a teacher, my philosophy is to make learning fun. I have high standards
and expect a lot from my students, but also can be understanding and
patient. I believe that you learn more by doing than watching and because I
believe that real life learning means more and therefore sticks with you
more. I try to keep my classes interactive and fun. I have a good sense of
humor, and enjoy joking with my students. Hopefully, we will both know when
it is OK to joke around, and when it is time to get settled down for work.
When that happens, it is more fun for everyone involved.
As a person, my philosophy is to grab every opportunity that life has to
offer. I want to be an active participant in every aspect and get the most
out of every experience. After all, we are in charge of our own destiny.
Teaching is an exciting job and I'm glad to be yours for the 2010-2011
school year!
Sincerely, Beth
"The object of teaching is to enable the child to get along without the
teacher."
In my classroom, I hope to encourage students to be life-long learners. I
will give them the tools necessary to become creative thinkers, and try to
make sure everyone loves to come to another exciting day of school. (Well,
I do my best!)
