I’m looking forward to another great year in Social Studies!
This year we will focus on geography and ancient civilizations of the world.
We will start the year with a unit on the general themes of geography:
Location, Place, Human/Environment Interactions, Movement, and Regions. With
this foundation established, we will then explore the major characteristics
and historical influence of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Indus
River Valley, Greece, and Rome. Whenever possible, course content will be
integrated with activities in Language Arts, particularly in the area of Greek
Mythology.
This class will be taught in a project-oriented manner which will
focus on discussion, use of primary sources, cooperative learning, and point-
of-view analysis. An interactive student notebook will be the organizational
anchor and portfolio of individual learning.
