Mission Statement

“Assessment for Learning”

We intend to build healthy assessment environments for students that meet the information needs of all instructional decision makers, help students to learn and fell able to learn and thus support unprecedented increases in student achievement. We envision schools where formative assessment leads the instructional approach within the classroom ultimately leading to summative assessments that show the real and current ability of each student. We propose a vision that sees assessment as a way to promote greater learning and therefore growth for each student.

Our Vision includes:

• Giving students clear assessment targets
• Stating learning goals in terms that students understand
• Providing assessment pieces that accurately reflect student achievement
• Using classroom assessments to build student confidence in themselves as learners; helping them take responsibility for their own learning, thus laying a foundation for lifelong learning.
• Providing frequent feedback for students containing specific, prescriptive insights
• Adjusting instruction based upon results of classroom assessments
• Engaging students in regular self-assessment
• Involving students in communicating with their teacher and family about their achievement status and improvement
