What school supplies does my child need for school?
Please send your child to school with extra pencils and a
backpack. All other supplies will be given to your child on
the first day of school. Of course, you may always send extra
supplies with your child. Extra crayons, glue sticks, and a
pencil case would be very helpful.
My child's All-Star Folder is falling apart. What can I do?
These folders get used everyday, so they do start to fall apart
during the year. The PTA generously supplies us with one folder for each
child. There are no extras available. If your child's folder is
fallling apart, it is acceptable to purchase another folder (of our
choice) from any store. They are very inexpensive at Target or
Walmart.
May I volunteer my time in my child's classroom?
Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help in the classroom. In
the weekly newsletter, I will inform you of volunteer
opportunities that are approaching. Please be aware that parents
need to have ALL STATE AND FEDERAL CLEARANCES completed before
they may volunteer in the classroom. Please contact me if you
have questions about this process.
Will my first grader have a snack break? What should I send for snack?
Yes! We will enjoy a snack every day! Please send snacks that can
be easily packed up and put away if not finished. For example,
send apple slices in a bag, instead of a whole apple. Students
will only have time to enjoy one snack. If you send more than one
snack, most of it will probably be wasted. Please send
everything to school that your child needs to enjoy his or her
snack (spoons, straws, napkins, etc.). Please do not send candy
or soda.
What is the school's phone number?
484-373-6250
How can I contact Miss Fisher?

-write a note and place it inside your child's folder
-write a note on your child's homework sheet
-leave a blog on my website
Do you have any ideas for studying spelling and heart words?
Yes! Please visit the "Tips for Spelling Practice" link on my
website. There are many great ideas to help your child study
spelling and heart words.
How can I help my child with reading at home?
-practice heart words often
-complete homework every day
-read stories two or three times to increase fluency
-encourage children to read in their free time
-check my website for The ABC's of Reading
-take turns reading a story so students hear fluency
-make weekly trips to the library
Sometimes my child gets stuck reading words. What can I do to help?
-encourage your child to make all the sounds they know in the word
-encourage your child to "fingerspell" the word (say each sound
in the word out loud while holding up fingers)
-encourage your child to look for familiar "chunks" in the word
-encourage your child to skip the word and read to the end of the
sentence
-encourage your child to use the story pictures
-encourage your child to think about what makes sense
What are heart words?
Heart words are words that your child must know "by heart." Children
should not have to "sound out" heart words.
You may also know these words as sight words or word wall words.
