Welcome to Honors Chemistry! Be ready to work and learn a lot. This course is designed
to allow the students to investigate fundamental chemistry with respect to the world
around them and to realize the major role chemistry plays throughout their daily lives.
This class combines lecture, discussion, lab work and recitation work. There is a heavy
emphasis on math with an assumption that the students have a solid working knowledge
of Algebra and Geometry. The laboratory investigations will be used to further explore
the topics being discussed although not all classes contain a lab. Group discussions,
homework, quizzes and tests will be used as methods of evaluation. Research projects
and presentations will be assigned once the course is in session. The students should
be able to relate the learned information to the world around them and apply it to
everyday situations.
I have very high expectations for my students regarding work ethic, academic integrity
and persistence . As your instructor I am willing to help you in any way so that you can
experience success and a sense of accomplishment throughout this class. I am available
for additional help or tutoring every morning from 7 am to 7:35 and after school beginning
at 2:20 Tuesday - Friday and beginning at 3:00 on Mondays. Please do not hesitate to ask
for help at any time.
Honors Chemistry may be the most difficult class you have encountered so far in your high
school career. Hopefully, it will also be one of the most interesting and rewarding academic
experiences as well.
